Hisashi Igou

Origin

Hisashi Igou is an intelligent and kind young student of Fujimi High School in Tokonosu Prefecture. He's a classmate and friend of Takashi Komuro. After Tahashi's childhood friend, Rei, dumped him, she started going out with Hisashi. When the outbreak struck the school, he wsa the one who dubbed the zombies as "Them".

Creation

Highschool of the Dead Vol. 1 JPN (2007)

Hisashi Igou is a supporting character of the manga/anime series Highschool of the Dead that was written by Daisuke Sato and illustrated by Shouji Sato. The series first began serialization in Fujimi Shobo's Monthly Dragon Age magazine in July 2006.

His first appearance was in Hightschool of the Dead Volume 1 CH. 1 "Spring of the Dead", and his first anime appearance was in Highschool of the Dead - Episode 1 "Spring of the Dead". His character in the Japanese series is voiced by Mamoru Miyano, and the U.S. dub produced by Section 23 is performed by David Matranga.

Hisashi plays the cliche role of the friend who is infected, and transforms, and has to be killed after turning into a zombie. This is a theme that is present in nearly all zombie themed stories.

Spring of the Dead

Hisashi struggles to hold back Wakisaka

When Takashi first notices the outbreak reaching the school and goes to get Rei out of the school, Hiashi is willing to believe him, going so far as to procure weapons for the group and heading for the roof in hopes to not run into the mass hysteria on the stairs and waves of the undead. As he and the group runs through the halls, they come across their headmaster, already turned zombie as the group prepares to attack him. Having cornered Rei, Hisashi goes in to save her, only to get attacked and bitten on the arm by the zombie, being saved by Takashi and a baseball bat. After Hisashi recovers, he points out that this is just like a movie as he and the others witness students in the courtyard and school grounds being eaten alive as other commit suicide. As the group makes it to the roof, they see the chaos in the city as their undead classmates have come up to the roof following them. They make it to the observatory area of the rooftop as Hisashi suffers from his wounds.

After coughing up blood and losing his grip on life, Hisashi begs for Takashi to throw him off the roof in the hopes of splitting his skull and dying as a result, not wanting to become a zombie. Rei refuses it as she does not understand what Hisashi does, believing that he would pull through and Takashi would only do it out of jealously and not mercy. As Hisashi dies, Rei mourns him only to have a new sense of hope when he rises again. However, the infection has causes Hisashi to become a full fledged zombie as Takashi carries out the wish of his friend, claiming he killed his best friend that day.

Even though he appeared in the beginning of the series, Rei mentions him from time to time, accidentally calling Takashi Hisashi once. Takashi is furious that Rei would still think of Hisashi even though he is dead.
