Arakawa's Self-Portrait
Arakawa's Self-Portrait
Just to spice things up with a bit of pure random, I noticed on Comic Natalie that mangaka Hiromu Arakawa, best known for her manga Fullmetal Alchemist, is being interviewed in another manga magazine, Puff-- which is dedicated to bishounen and very light-BL works, for the most part.

But the interview has nothing to do with FMA, nor with Hero Tales or another Arakawa work. No, Arakawa is going to talk about her essay on agriculture. This might surprise you if you're not familiar with Arakawa's personal background!

Born in Hokkaido, Arakawa actually grew up on a dairy farm-- which explains her favorite hand-drawn avatar for herself, which is a cow. (She uses it, as many mangaka do, to represent herself in omake comics at the back of collected volumes.) In the essay, she talks about her own thoughts and feelings as it relates to farming-- perhaps what we would call "creative nonfiction" these days.

And that's your random information for the day! The more you know, half the battle, etc.

That does explain the cow. Now if only there was an explanation as to why the cow is always wearing panties.

@Kelleth: You should pick up Moyashimon-- it's an agricultural themed comedy manga. :)

@gia: I already did i have 3 volumes and i watched the whole anime :) but still its not enough since its really more of a school anime if anything, is it really that hard to make comedy about a young boy moving from the big city to a small village to take care of his dead grandfather`s worn out old farm? the games seem to restart the premise over and over and it never gets boring.
