Chibi means to be small in stature. In anime/manga the term is used for a character that is small in appearance and exaggerated features.

Childhood Friend

The character has known the protagonist for a long time, typically all his/her life. If he/she's from the opposite gender there's a high chance he/she has a crush on the main character.

Clothing Damage

When a character's clothes become torn from an attack, such as an explosion or energy blast.

Comedy

Nearly every anime has a comedic moment here or there. Everyone likes to laugh.

Convenient Censorship

Convenient Censorship such as steam, hair and beams of light are often used in anime and manga to show naked characters while obscuring their "naughty bits".

Cooking

Someone or something to do with cooking.

Corrupt Leaders

Power corrupts. Bureaucratic power (especially tied to other powers) is no exception.

Crazy

Characters with serious long mental unstabilities. They're sometimes simply weird but recently they're portrayed as downright homicidiacs. Not to be confused with the Mentally Unstable where the character fights against it and usually wins.

Crude Humor

A style of comedy that takes a crass and politically incorrect approach to topics considered to be taboo, indecent, or impolite such as sex, violence, bodily functions, pedophilia, race, death, gender, sexual orientation and things that would generally be considered offensive if made light of.

Cults

A cult is a group of followers who worship a leader who is usually preaching a way of thinking they created. In anime and manga cults are usually villainous groups trying to take over the world or brainwash people.

Decapitation

These characters had died by the end of the manga, anime or movie. Permanently.

Delinquents

One who disobeys or breaks rules or laws, often used to describe younger individuals such as high schoolers who cause trouble.

Dismemberment

The loss of limbs and body parts is a common concept in many of the more violent Japanese manga and anime.

Doctors

A Doctor is a medical professional that works to the goal of curing illness in others.

Dogs

Canine animal with four legs that is seen as a pet.

Drama

Drama is a concept used in story telling to invoke an emotional reaction from the audience by using serious themes; such as tragedy, suspense, and death.

Drunk

Someone who loves to consume alcohol, and typically overdoes it.

Ecchi

Ecchi is a Japanese term meaning sexy or erotic, anything that evolves sexy characters. Derived from the word "Hentai" but their meanings are completely different. Ecchi walks that line between sexy, but never crosses it into full graphic nudity or sex.

Fan Service

Fan Service is often a sexually provocative moment or pose that takes place in manga and anime. It usually has no real purpose to a story, and serves as a lurid visual.

Father

Fatherhood as a concept. A man who has conceived or raised a child.

Femme Fatale

A woman who is considered to be dangerously seductive.

Fighters

The character knows well how to defend him or herself.

Flashback

Used frequently in Anime to either recap past events or provide a back story for a character, either their origin story or their off-screen training of new attack. Sometime and entire episode/chapter would be a entire flashback.

Ganguro

Ganguro is a fashion trend where young girls have deep tans, bleached out hair, and heavy make up.

Gore

Guts, blood. All that stuff. Mostly seen in violent anime.

Henchmen

Henchmen, or Lackeys, are the nameless masses under the command of a villain or other leader.

Heroic Sacrifice

An act when someone gives up something of great importance for a greater good.

Humans

Humans are typically depicted as the dominant species of the planet Earth, and sometimes of other planets. Humans often mirror their real life counterparts in terms of abilities and intellect, while other times they can achieve superhuman feats.

Japanese Honorifics

Japanese Honorifics are best described as a sign of respect and endearment. Politeness is an important part of Japanese culture and language.

Japanese Writing

Japanese Writing is the writing system of the Japanese language in the form of syllabaries. It consists of Kanji, hiragana, katakana, and romaji.

Jealousy

A feeling of jealous envy (especially of a rival).

Leader

The character is in higher rank. in hiearchy. Either he/she's an officer or simply marked as a leader of the group. He/she's the one making the important decisions ragarding the group or organisation he/she's leading.

The kind of character always gets into trouble by his or her bad luck, silliness, and/or cluelessness. A common source of comedy.

Mother

A woman who has given birth to or raised a child.

Murder

The act of taking another person's life.
