Maids and Butlers are highly popular within anime and manga. They can simply be a job, or they can be a lifestyle for loyal servants to a master or mistress. Identified by a particular uniform. Also popular in cosplay.

Common visual conventions seen in manga and anime to convey emotions, often for comical effect.

Martial Arts

Seen in just about every form of anime at least at one point. The key component that makes Shounen popular among boys. As well as Ancient art in itself

The force of defense and offense of a nation. Are mostly equiped with the best weapons that the nation can provide.

A towel usually worn after bathing or showering to cover up. Sometimes used as censorship even during bathing.

Moronic character

The kind of character always gets into trouble by his or her bad luck, silliness, and/or cluelessness. A common source of comedy.

A woman who has given birth to or raised a child.

Murder

The act of taking another person's life.

Naked Apron

The Naked Apron is a fetish cosplay. The wearer will either be in underwear or naked with an apron covering their front.

Nosebleed

Bleeding from the nose, in manga/anime it mostly used as a sight gag that happens when a character is thinking or witnessing something perverted.

Nurses

A Nurse is a regular hospital worker and Doctor's assistant. Assisting in the day to day care of patients, they can be male or female.

Order of Shidou

The Order of Shidou is a group of students that were survivors of Fujimi High School that are led by their teacher Koichi Shidou to think they can rule the new world.

Otaku

In Japanese, otaku means people who are obsessed over something. Usually, it is in reference to anime, manga, and video games. In the western world, the word is frequently designated to a fan of anime, manga, video games and/or Japanese culture.

Parents

Someone or something that both has and raises children/offspring.

Parody

Parody is a style of work that closely resembles or mocks preexisting material or genres for comedic effect.

Partners

A group of at least two people who always work together and often make each other stronger by doing so.

Police

The Police are a form of law enforcement officers that work on the local levels. Uniforms are normally in either blue or black.

Post-Apocalypse

The world after the Big One (nuclear war, intergalactic invasion, super disease). Life sucks after the Apocalypse.

Potential Love Interest

The character has a chance of ending up with the protagonist. It means either the protagonist or the heroine(or maybe both) have feelings for the other.

Protagonist

The main character of a story or plot. Most forms of fiction have the protagonist as a hero but there are rare occasions with an evil or not-so-noble protagonist.

Reunion

Meeting one another after quite a while.

Rivals

Rivals are competitor to someone. Unlike an enemy, rivals could have similar goals but disagree on the process.

Rock Paper Scissors (janken)

Rock Paper Scissors is known in Japan as "janken". The hand gestures and rules are similar. A game that is often used to decide friendly disputes.

Romantic Drama is a concept used in series to create tensions of highs and lows in order to leave the audience in suspense over an outcome in a romance based series.

A Sadist is a type of person who attains gratification out of witnessing the suffering of others, either physical or emotional pain.

Shrine Maiden

A Shrine Maiden is a female caretaker of the Shinto shrines of Japan, and they are connected to the oracles from kami. Considered to be a medium/prophet between earth and the spirit realm. Traditionally wearing a white kimono and red hakama.

Sh┼Źnen

Literally means "boy" in Japanese, but is also used to refer to Japan's biggest manga demographic: pre-teen and teenage boys.

Simulcast & Simulpub

The term generally used when anime or manga is broadcast or published -- usually on the internet -- in countries outside of Japan around the same time as it airs/releases in Japan, usually within one week or even within 24 hours.

Skinship Grope

In anime and manga, girls sometimes admire each other's assets, to the point of groping either with or without permission. This concept applies to any part of the body and either gender, but it's usually all about boobs.

A person who smokes tobacco.

A common theme in character designs when a character has one tooth that hangs out like a fang. Typically used to show a sassy or rough personality.

A sniper is an individual who supports the front from distance. They use ranged weapons to shoot from very long distances with great accuracy. The snipers are famous for their precision and to attack from unexpected directions.

Public speaking is the process of speaking to a group of people in a structured, deliberate manner intended to inform, influence, or entertain the listeners.

A common theme in many mangas and animes.

Strong Women

Anime has long been known for having many strong male protagonist and depicting women as being weaker and in need of protection, but there are many female characters out there fighting this stereotype. These are women who possess strength not just physically but mentally and emotionally as well and are often the heroes of a series.

A Student is one who is enrolled or attends classes at a school, college, or university. A popular theme among many manga and animes.

Suicide

Suicide is the act of taking ones own life through various means.

Tattoos

Tattoos are permanent forms of body art that are created by injecting an ink or dye into the skin with a needle.

Teachers

A Teacher is a type of person who is in charge of educating others in some form of higher learning or skill. The Japanese title is "Sensei".

Team Takashi

Team Takashi are a group of students from Fujimi High School who survived the outbreak to search for their families.

Tragedy

A story or event centered around human misery. Characters in the story face suffering, dread, and destruction.

Tsundere

"Tsundere" is a portmanteau of two Japanese phrases: "tsuntsun" and "deredere" and refers to characters who act hostile to the object of their affections, but secretly (or not-so-secretly) harbor feelings for them.

Unreal Hair/Eye Color

A popular design choice for characters in anime is to give them natural hair and/or eye colors that do not occur in real nature.

V for Victory

A common form of expressing oneself in an anime where someone makes the piece sign in order to show spunky and cheery youthfulness.

World of Buxom

When large is standard and the majority of female characters are big-breasted, usually with very few exceptions.
