Famous high school detective of the west whose deductions are nearly rivaled to that of Shinichi Kudo.
Heiji is basically a western version of Shinichi Kudo. He too spent his whole life around mysteries and crime-fighting. His deduction skill is almost as good, but Shinichi always reveals more than Heiji can. He first viewed it as a win-lose challenge until Shinichi set him straight. His is considered Shinichi's friendly rival.
First Appearance
Heiji first came to Kogoro Mouri's detective agency trying to get into contact with Shinichi. Ran and a sick Conan had just gotten back home when they heard he wanted to challenge Shinichi. When he learned that he couldn't be contacted, he decided that if he could solve a recent case Kogoro could faster than Shinichi could, then he could prove that he was the better detective. On the way, Heiji gave Conan a swig of an Osakan alcohol that latter began to reverse the poison's effects. Heiji had just about solved the case when Shinichi in his original body appeared and not only proved Heiji was wrong but revealed the real truth to everyone. He then gave Heiji a good lecture about how solving crimes isn't a competition and set him straight.
Later On
Heiji comes back again and figures out that Conan is the one making Kogoro famous and that he is really Shinichi Kudo. He agrees to help Shinichi keep his identity a secret and helps him whenever he can. They have now become good friends and solve cases together whenever they meet. They still compete every once in a while.
