Peter Sciretta at /Film has a theory: that famed anime director Hayao Miyazaki will be in attendence at both the LA Film Festival, where Studio Ghibli's latest film Ponyo on a Cliff by the Sea will premiere, and at San Diego Comic Con.
Now, it's a theory, not any kind of proven fact, but it makes a certain amount of sense: Miyazaki, who isn't a frequent traveler to North America by any stretch, will be on hand to receive a relatively small award in Berkeley, CA overlapping the LAFF and San Diego Comic Con. It just makes sense that he'd hit the events while he was here.
On the other hand, Miyazaki has never been much of an attention hog here in the States (if anywhere), so he might shy away from such crowd-heavy locales as well...though in the Hollywood-alooza that is San Diego Comic Con, Miyazaki may manage to blend in well enough.
Only time will tell, since I doubt making an expensive call to Japan or a less-expensive one to San Diego will net me anything in the absence of a formal announcement. Still though...a girl can hope. It kills me that I'm missing Miyazaki in Berkeley!
So let me ask you, just in case I find myself face-to-face with the man himself and little or no time to prepare: what would YOU ask Hayao Miyazaki, if you had just one question?
