This franchise is that of a light novel series, two manga spin offs, and a anime series currently in production. Follows the slice of life misadventures of the Neighbors Club in their ongoing pursuit to make friends.
Haganai: I Don't Have Many Friends, known in Japan as Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai (僕は友達が少ない, lit. I Have Few Friends) and Haganai (はがない) for short, is a light novel series written by Yomi Hirasaka and illustrated by Buriki. Haganai has been adapted into 2 manga series and 2 anime series.
Due to his blond hair and intimidating look, Kodaka Hasegawa has been considered as delinquent by many, even though he is not. As result, Kodaka was never able to make friends in his high school. One day, he sees his classmate Yozora Mikazuki talking with somebody cheerfully, even though she is known as unsociable person who doesn't have any friend. It turns out she was talking to her imaginary friends, or "air friend" as she claims. Even though Kodaka ridicules Yozora's imaginary friend, she criticize back at him for not having friends either. After lengthy discussion on how to make friends, Yozora comes with solution, create a after school club with sole purpose of making friends which was named the Neighbors' Club. Thus mischievous club activities begin.
The male protagonist of the series. Kodaka has Japanese father and English mother, giving him blonde hair, and this cause people to think that he is a thug or some sort. Not only that when he smile it makes him look intimidating. Due to his blonde hair and intimidating smile, he has been unable to make any friend ever since he was transfered to the new school. Among other members of the Neighbor's Club, he is the most reasonable one compared to other members.
President to the Neighbor's Club who is very cunning, which gave her edge to control other people like Maria and Sena. Even though she is known as one of the prettiest girl in school, she is not someone who can be easily approached. It is hinted at some point that she has met Kodaka when both of them were little kids but Yozora is the only one who can remember. She is seen reading all the time.
Granddaughter of school's principal, making her wealthy and but arrogant. Not only she is beautiful, Sena is also pretty intelligent, making her close to perfect woman but has somewhat flawed characteristic, making her not have any friend. She sees other males beings as her slaves, and so first thing she does when she sees a male is to tell him to be stepped on by her, which most of them did except Kodaka. As story progresses, she becomes an otaku who is very into dating sim and eroge aka adult-porn-sim-games loving all the female characters in the games. She is constantly being called "Cow" or "Meat" by Yozora.
Feminine boy who aspire to become manly person. He initially stalked Kodaka thinking that he can also be manly as him according to stories he has heard, which turned out to be weird rumor spread within the school because Kodaka hangs out with two beautiful girls in the school, Yozora and Sena. Even on their first encounter everybody else though he was girl as well. Tricked by Yozora, Yukimura currently wears maid uniform and acts like one.
Kodaka's younger sister. Ever since she was little she's been into weird thing, and one day she watched a TV show with vampire theme which inspired her to become vampire as well. She wears gothic lolita cloth all the time and speak as if she really is a vampire.
A 10-year-old girl who is a nun and also the Neighbor's Club's Adviser. She claims herself as an adult but in the end she act like a child.
Mad scientist, who was so smart and that Sena's Grandfather actually went to her house asked her to enroll in his school. Later on she turns out to be a fujoshi, female otaku who is very into BL, but RIka takes it to the next level and loves sexual intercourse between two mecha.
The original light novel series is written by Yomi Hirasaka and illustrated by Buriki. It began serialization in 2009 by the Japanese publisher Media Factory and was printed by MF Bunko J. The first volume was published on August 25, 2009. As of June 25, 2012, 8 volumes have been published.

Anime version start its broadcast in October of 2011.

Wave has released seven 1/10th scale figures in their "Beach Queens" line. Yozora Mikazuki, Kobato Hasegawa, and Sena Kashiwazaki were released in 2012 on June 27, August 27, and September 24, respectively. Maria Takayama and Rika Shiguma were both released on October 24, 2012. Yukimura Kusunoki and Yozora Mikazuki (Short Hair ver.) were released in 2012 on November 17 and November 27, respectively.
Max Factory has released two 1/7th scale figures, Maria Takayama and Kobato Hasegawa, both released on August 27, 2012.
Alpha Max has released two 1/7th scale figures, Sena Kashiwazaki and Yozora Mikazuki, both released on December 19, 2012.
