Tom, awesome writeup - love these series features. Just wanted to comment on the show having a similar theme as Evangelion. In a lot of ways i got some of those same vibes while watching it too as some of the plot elements seemed to be similar. I kept seeing a bunch of parallels between Shinji and Simon's situations and how they act in almost opposite ways. Thinking about it more though, Evangelion's main theme to me has always been the "hedgehog's dilemma". The whole show to me was about the connections between people and the difficulty in interacting with each other. Shinji's limitations were real and something that we all deal with to some extent, Shinji was just an extreme example to illustrate the concept. Loved both shows, not saying one it better than the other.

Mostly spot-on with your final thoughts here, Tom. The only thing I would add is that Simon believes the spiral nemesis is a real thing--it is just that when the anti-spiral realized this, it said "retreat," whereas Simon said "attack!"
I thought your comment about Nia being a real-life "dream girl" metaphor was pretty incisive.
But I have to say the biggest thing that has to be said about this show, and you at least started saying it, is how memorable it is. I must have seen hundreds of animated hot chicks with oddly colored hair, but Yoko is the one I remember. I've seen all manner of silly attacks, but who can forget "Giga Drill Breaker" and galaxy shurikens? And Kamina! The guy is only in like, 1/3 of the episodes, but he's *so* memorable.
The phrase that comes to mind here is "refuge in audacity." Where we might call out another show for stretching believability, TTGL sort of keeps going with the ridiculous until it becomes endearing.
Anyway, I really enjoyed reading the TTGL Watch-and-Learns, and I hope that some of the momentum that these blog posts and comments had will carry over to whatever happens next.

@Catolf: If I remember right, that entire final fight scene occurred in a "pocket universe" created by the Anti-spiral. So the quadrillions are safe.
The real problem is that for the robots to throw galaxies like that, they'd have to move faster than light. Like, you could do the math--figure out how large an average galaxy is from end to end, and then use that as a measure of distance, and then time how long it takes the robots to move that far on screen.
But really, you don't have to run the numbers: just consider that galaxies are many light-years across, and then note that the robots take waaaaay less than years to traverse them.

As far as I understand in regards to the epilogue, Gainax did not have designs for the characters: they were apparently drawn on the spot. I think if you look closely on Leeron's face, you can see a wrinkle or two (I'm not 100% sure though).

If they were actually that big and made of iron, they would generate so much gravity that the galaxies would just come crashing down on them. But I guess it would take like a billion years because the galaxies wouldn't travel faster than light? :P Anyway love the show and the Watch and Learns!

But really, if we're thinking this hard in this way about the show, we're totally missing the point. "they explain it in the show, Spiral power, actually broke any law as long as the user wants enough for it to happen, that is why spiral nemesis can happen, too much law being broken, when they form Chouginga, they can shoot missile that ignores space and time barrier the anti spiral use
