Gurren Lagann Parallel Works: I Can't Believe Gainax Did This

We're all at least somewhat familiar with anime music videos. If not, then GodLen is probably sad you don't read his feature...

Anyway, a AMV combines (usually) the music from one object, and the visuals from another. What makes it an "anime" music video is that one of these two components are from an anime series. Gainax forget to get this memo, and decided to release their own official music videos for Gurren Lagann. The catch? Since they couldn't put Gurren Lagann clips with GL animation, they decided to animate piles of new Gurren Lagann fanservice. Set in parallel universes, some of them are about...

  • 1) Viral playing Pinball on a giant, space Gunman/Pinball Machine
  • 2) Young, naked Gimmy beating up and stealing from Simon, Kamina, and Yoko.
  • 3) Kamina, Viral, and Simon as fantasy adventurers, attempting to rescue Princess Nia.

Its just kind of mind bogglingly cool. The episodes were all listed up on Gainax's website at one point and time, but now they are assembled on this DVD. No NA release yet, though Gia notes that the Amazon.jp listing is on sale right now...

I would totally watch that if it got turned into a full anime. More Gurren Lagann is always a good thing.
