Overview

Hello again Vicers, and welcome to the third edition of KuroNekoXIII's Guilty Crown Weekly Reports. I'm glad to see that Guilty Crown is finally starting to get more views here on the Vice, and that there are more and more Vicers that are slowly starting to participate in these reports. I really appreciate it guys and girls, and I hope to see and hear more of you in the Guilty Crown forums and wiki pages.

Now without further ado, I present to you Guilty Crown's Ep 3 Weekly Report - Void Sampling.

Plot

The third episode of Guilty Crown starts where it finished off in the second episode, with Inori joining Shu's class as his new classmate. Not only that, but she also moves into his apartment and now lives with him. Shu, who doesn't understand why Inori is with him every step he takes, receives an explanation from Gai Tsutsugami. Gai tells Shu that there was one witness that saw and identified Shu during the Undertaker's attack in Roppongi; and that witness happens to go to Shu's school.

It is now Inori and Shu's job to search through the student body for the witness, needing to extract the students' Voids to find out which one of them is the witness.

New Characters

Kanon Kusama
Kanon Kusama
Shu Ouma's classmate, and she is the student representative of class 2 - A.
Major Segai
Major Segai
Little is known about this character. All that was mentioned about him is that he will now be in charge of all Funeral Parlor - related matters, and that he is known for taking his job very seriously.

Verdict

Good

1. We finally get a break from the "running for out lives" , "guns and explosions" , and "fight fight fight" themes that have been predominate in the first two episodes of this series. Now we can sit back and watch more mundane anime themes that we can all relate too, and that would be "school-life" and "life as a teen".

2. We also learn a bit more about Shu's school social standing, as well as his family life. We are also further acquainted with Shu's classmates that were introduced during the first episode of Guilty Crown, Yahiro Samukawa, and Souta Tamadate.

3. Finally, we get a little more humor! I've been itching for humor in Guilty Crown to lighten the mood a little, and we finally get a little of that. The funny moments were mainly during the Void-searching process, and how some of the Voids were very random. Also, the voice actor for Souta Tamadate, Daisuke Sakaguchi, is known for taking roles of funny characters, and character-relief roles. Examples include Youhei Sunohara from Clannad, Shinpachi Shimura from Gintama, and Tadayasu Sawaki from Moyashimon. So that makes Souta's character, in particular, one of the more pleasant ones to see and watch.

4. We also learn a little more about Voids and their extraction.

5. It also seems that Shu and Inori have undergone small character evolution during this episode.

Bad

Pros and Cons of Living with a Girl
Pros and Cons of Living with a Girl

1. The only bad thing that I found during this episode was that it had the anime cliche where the main female protagonist ends up living with the main male protagonist. I think that pushed it a little.....Inori could've moved into the apartment next door, right?

Miscellaneous

This episode taught me to look between eyebrows when I want to avoid making eye contact, yet want to still look like I'm looking at the person. Its a pretty neat trick, and it'll come in handy since I do get a little nervous while having long eye-contact with someone not close to me.

During the ending theme, the last scene was of Shu bowing to the student representative, Kanon (the reason would be clear after watching the episode)

Recent Wiki Edits

I've been spending lots of time this past week on working on editing the Guilty Crown franchises, and their corresponding characters, concepts, and objects pages. If you want a better picture on the series and it's background, check out these wiki pages to get a better feel of the series. Note that they haven't been fully updated yet, but I think it'll give you a good heads up on the series' background.

Haha! This episode was awesome, imo. It's always awesome to have crazy semi-slice of life moments. XD

This anime is becoming a crossover between Code Geass and Maoh. :3

Great report btw! Keep 'em coming!

Thanks Superevil! Lol nice comparison :D I thought this episode was pretty good too. It's always nice to get a little school-life here and there, in my opinion.

@KuroNekoXIII:

I finally watched this episode. It might turn off some fans who want to keep the serious and apocalyptic tone of the show, but I feel it's a nice break from all that tension of war.

My favorite quote from Inori: "Can I stay with you forever?" I wonder what that means. Plus, I love the how bowing scene means in the ending credit. Nice job catching that because I would have missed the meaning of it. Besides looking at the eyes, Shu should have place his hand on the middle areas of the class representative's chest instead of the boob. I don't think he place his hand on Inori's breast when pulling out the void. WTF moment of this episode is when Yahiro stated that Shu called him "sugar." Don't know why or I must have missed something.

It's a good thing you put down the wiki work. FoxxFireArt saw it and put it down on the community spotlight; I think someone else gave word about your work on Guilty Crown. (I wonder who?)

For the cliches, I think this show is like Sekirei and Fate Stay Night where the main protagonist stays with the hot girl at home. Plus, there is no adults at the house, so there's a chance for those things that teenagers do when they are bored. (Not that I experienced it).

Thanks for the idea! I was looking on what to improve on my weekly reports, so there's more discussion. I add trivia questions and animated GIFs, but I haven't talk about the seiyuu. I'm a little iffy on the anime references because I don't want to spoiled the fans too much. I will talk about seiyuu next time.

Sweet! You got the chance to watch the episode!

Agreed, but I think the producers took that in consideration and made sure that the episode ended in a way to captivate the audiences' attention again (I wont go into detail so I wouldnt spoil anything to those who havent watched the episode)

WTF moment of this episode is when Yahiro stated that Shu called him "sugar." Don't know why or I must have missed something.

I also didn't understand that part the first time I watched it, but after watching the episode again, it made sense to me. I'll explain to you what I understood:

So basically, we learned in this episode that Yahiro actually drug-deals and his dealer name is "Sugar". He wanted to keep that "Sugar" identity secret from his school life, so he always used to act as the "nice" and "friendly" guy around his classmates; and that's how he made his "friends". When Shu called him "Sugar", that just meant that Shu now sees Yahiro as a dealer, and not the nice and friendly guy (in Yahiro's perspective). This pisses Yahiro off, and that's what made him flip.

Hope that helped clear things. You'll learn more about Yahiro in the next episode.

It's a good thing you put down the wiki work. FoxxFireArt saw it and put it down on the community spotlight; I think someone else gave word about your work on Guilty Crown. (I wonder who?)

The reason why I included the wiki work was because I had a feeling that the Guilty Crown storyline and plot seems a little confusing. Since it is a new series and it isn't based on a manga, it's pretty hard to find plot-lines, characters info, concepts, etc online. I've been doing research on the series and increasing my knowledge about it, then I'd update the wiki pages when I get the chance. My goal is to make it easy for Guilty Crown fans (and other people) to find info on the series and how things relate to one another. I really appreciate those who gave out word to my work, and give them my sincere gratitude :)

I think including seiyuus would be a good idea too. Speaking for myself, I really take into consideration the voice talents of the characters I watch; to the extent that I might not watch an anime series if I dont like how the characters are voiced, and vice versa. I think other anime fans out there share the same sentiment, so I think adding seiyuus may increase discussion in these reports.

@KuroNekoXIII:

I have to go contribute since I'm on your team for Guilty Crown. Too much wiki stuff. You did a great job on the wiki pages.
