Chapter One

  Bleach: Sky And Sea

Birth of captain

The head captain of the Sorakai division of the soul society sat behind his desk, overseeing all the missions that the members of his division undertook. As the soul society of the western world the job demanded much of him. Standing up from his desk he slowly walked towards his door. His long silver beard dragged along the ground as he approached the door. Reaching for the knob, his brittle bones and slow mind could not have even sensed his fate that lay around the corner.
The door to the room slammed open as a man in his late twenties held it open. “Father, I’m here to help oversee today’s mission!” The man’s left arm was full of papers and books. He wore the usual soul reaper kimono and had slightly bemused look on his face. “Father?” When a slight groan reached his ears he slowly opened the door. Behind the door lay his father, groaning and moaning.
“Oh my god, father!” At that very moment, the (after) life left the old head captain. As he had been old, too old to even count, and a long time since battle: he was ill prepared, even for the slightest attack.
And that is how Kento Hura’s new reign as head captain over the Sorakai soul society: began.

Chapter Two

  Fight 1: Remember to Regret

“Captain Hura, there is an urgent message from you regarding the main soul society.” The specky assistant handed the letter to Kento Hura. Now adorned in the Head Soul Reaper uniform, his expression labeled his discontentment towards his current position.
Immediately after his father was accepted as completely dead, he was instantly appointed the position of Head Captain. The mixed feelings of interest and disapproval washed over his face constantly… His appointment held mixed emotions in the Sorakai as well.
Most Soul Reapers’ opinions on this inauguration were ones of distrust. As Kento was still a young and learning Soul Reaper many of the younger generation felt a little more attached to their new captain, for his opinion would be far more valued among them. Unfortunately this made up 10% of the soul society.
“Thank you Asuna, I’ll look it over…” Kento stole the letter from the female assistant. Quickly the woman retreated to her position outside the office. Sighing Kento turned and stared out the window of the office.
The deep blue ocean of the Soul Society churned and swayed. The sounds soothed Kento’s soul. His dark black hair done up in a tiny little tail, swayed in the breeze that greeted him. The gray eyes continued to stare out at the ocean, his mind barely aware of the letter in his hands. A few days ago he barely had a care in the world, now he had to run the Sorakai division all on his own.
Turning back to the letter he began to read, not expecting what would be to come.

Yamoto Hura,
Recently it has come aware to the head Soul Reapers that the structure of the soul society is falling apart. An annulment of each individual society has been requested with the idea of a newer system of a single soul society. As head captain of the Sorakai, the soul societies second greatest asset, and your opinion on this matter is requested.
For more information regarding the decision by the high soul society, please address the file of Gin Ichimaru and Sôsuke Aizen.
In conjunction with the prior issue, the number of Soul Reapers will be greatly reduced, as space at the main Society will be limited. Those unfit of the newer, higher title of Soul Reaper, will be sent back to live in one of the soul societies many jurisdictions…

…Shigekuni Yamamoto-Genryûsai.

The rest of the letter was further information regarding the decisions of the high society. Kento was only thinking through what the letter could mean to his division under his name. He was willing to express his opinion of this idea: that it was ludicrous!
“Haguchi, here now!” Kento shouted. His office door slammed open as a woman, roughly around twenty-eight years of age quickly shuffled into the office. Her large and thick glasses took away from her possibly womanly appearance.
“Yes captain Hura?” She addressed her superior with very little confidence. Since his new position arrived, many of his once thought acquaintances now look and speak with him awkwardly and sparingly.
“I need you to help me get together the captains and lieutenants of the squads, I need to chose only the best of them to attend a meeting with the other head Soul Reapers.” Kento replied while blatantly stroking his temples, clearly the issue of the letter was far greater then it appeared.
“Yes captain Hura.” Haguchi trailed off as Kento turned back to the window over looking the soul sea.
“Ai aye yai…” He sighed and continued to probe his temples.

Kento stood in front of the twenty-six soul reapers. His thirteen-squad leaders, and their lieutenants stood patiently awaiting instruction.
“Alright, I’m assuming you know why you are here?” Kento asked his division. A small hand shot up. Kento sighed as he turned towards his eleventh division lieutenant. “Yes Riku?” Kento sighed.
The small girl pulled down her hand and put her hands behind her back, she looked to the ground shy as she was. “I don’t know Kento…” Her pink locks dancing as she swayed on the spot. Her normal (For an adult) sized, pink sheath comically swinging from side to side, slapping the legs of the far older and taller people beside her.
“It’s captain Hura now remember?” Kento sighed as the girl continued to sway. “To update the lieutenants on what is going on: simply put the soul society is going to depression.” The murmurs of query and shock spread through his audience.
“Depression?” The deep voice singled out from the rest. “How exactly does a group of dead people go into depression?” Kento once again turned to his eleventh, probably the most blunt division out there.
“Well Ross, it is possible, and is happening at this very moment.” Kento once again turned to the rest of his audience. “With the depression coming I need to attend a meeting with the other Head captains of the soul society divisions.” The continued murmur of distrust and resentment towards Kento’s position became utterly aware.
“So in the interest of the Sorakai division I think it would be best to bring the best, and most unique Soul Reapers of our division, for both the sake of demonstration…” Kento sighed again. “And persuasion should it come to it…”
“What exactly is your idea for the depression captain Hura?” A tall blonde lieutenant from the second squad spoke out. His facemask and thick garbs masking his usually: large, spiritual pressure.
“That my friend: will depend… if I am bringing you with me.” Kento’s only reply.
“Hn…” The blonde returned to his ignorance of the current situation. Kento sighed for a final time before his face-hardened and addressed the head issue.
“So in order to decide on which soul reapers will be attending the meeting with me, I have proposed a small competition.” The mention of competition both raised and lowered aspirations.
“What do you mean by competition?” A frail hand had gone into the air. A young soul reaper, perhaps nineteen had raised her hand. Kento barely recognized the soul reaper due to her recent introduction to Sorakai ranks.
“Ah young Utada, of course you would be the one to ask.” Kento shook his head in annoyance. “Simply put: every captain and lieutenant will be participating in a round robin tournament to decide who will be accompanying me.” Kento chuckled to himself at the both relaxed and dumbfounded stares he was receiving.
There was a healthy laugh that radiated from the audience of Kento. Kento and the other soul reapers turned their attention towards the laughter. The laughing reaper had curiously curled hair and a slight smirk on his face. His eyes were tightly clasped and his hearty laugh was not unknown to the expression. “Just like father eh’ Kento-kun.” Kento smiled at his Lieutenant.
“Right, of course Luic Sevres.” Kento laughed in return to his second.
