The first Green Green video was based on the erotic game of the same name. Rural boys' school Kanenone High is going coed with a girls' school and the two student bodies meet on a getting-to-know-you visit to the Kanenone campus. Kanenone 10th grade stalwarts Bacchi-Gu, Tenjin, Ichiban, and Yusuke are caught peeping at the girls, so when they are accused of panty theft they have to find the real thief to salvage what remains of their reputation. A year later the TV series picks up Yusuke's story as the girls transfer in to the peaceful country school and cause all manner of romantic disruption. Predictably, for a series that so openly embraces boys' obsession with girls (and some might say, why not?), the cast actually starts the credits sequence naked, acquiring clothes during the opening theme. Half-hearted mention is occasionally made that Yusuke and coed Futaba were lovers in a past life, which is a thin attempt to put a spiritual gloss on the childhood betrothals of Love Hina and its ilk. The GG Character DVD spin-off came out the same year, with three short stories starring the main characters, plus music videos and TV clips. In 2004 another video one-shot, GG 13: Erolutions, was an erotic love story between Yusuke and classmate Futaba.
