OK… I realize this is probably the third time I’ve come back to the show after saying I’d lay off. Well, I happened to be on FUNI’s site and there happened to be a new episode and… I really couldn’t help myself. You’ll all also be glad to know that Sam and I shot a Vice Pit session on this show which will be running some time next week.

I was dubious of how long this show could run with its initial conceit after the first couple episodes - - how long it could prolong the inevitable serious stuff that comes with the premise. This far in, I’m finding that show’s actually gotten funnier as it’s gone along, simply because it’s become about how this Goddess of Poverty keeps trying to corral Ichiko into learning her lesson in humility and proving more inept with each failed attempt. It’s sort-of like she’s trying to make all these actors get in place for a lame, old play that nobody really wants to put on.

Of course, the show's still being pretty inventive with these premises. Another curse goes wrong and Ichiko winds up revisiting her potential boyfriend’s family in a fashion that shows her just how rude she was to them last time? That’s clever, man. More importantly, it tells a “supernatural lesson” without cribbing any moves from A CHRISTMAS CAROL’s dog-eared playbook.

And hey - - about those reluctant actors I mentioned? They’re probably unruly child actors. This show isn’t flashy in the way that normally gets fans to say, “Dude, sick animation!” but it’s actually proven to be a very well-rendered show. Even the way they animated de-aged Ichiko here has some well-studied naturalism. She really does move like, and have the body language, of a real life five-year-old. It was unexpectedly impressive, I'd got to say.

While I did like the “OVER 9000!!!” sight gag… the stand-out gag had to be the successive exchanges of logic for why Ichigo wants to stay at their place. “I don’t have a home!” Well, we should call welfare. “Wait – I mean, my home’s abusive!” Well, I better got kick your Dad’s ass.

That’s gold, man. Gold.

Watch this episode, "One of Us is Flat-chested, Again? Hm? Hm?! Hm!!?” here and decide for yourself, then read my comments on the previous episode here.

Tom, stop lying to yourself and everyone else! You can't resist this show!

Haha, gold indeed. Ichigo just couldn't catch a break, Keita had the answer to everything. I cracked up when he said he'd go kick her dad's ass, mainly because the dude was totally serious.

This anime season has been really enjoyable so far, and I haven't even checked out all the shows I'm interested in just yet, but so far I have this unusual trinity of favourites. Binbogami ga!, Campione!, and Kokoro Connect, and they're all very different shows which only makes it even more interesting. This show definitely takes the comedy crown though.

I'm looking forward to the Vice Pit video on this for sure.

Flat-chested jokes are a real turn off for me. I think I will have to wait for the season to be over and get others opinions on this series.

This episode is fantastic and funny. Sakura is learning what family is like which is what she never had, and Keita's reactions to Sakura's little lies is great. I didn't noticed little Sakura's body language versus her adult self. I have to rewatch that scene again. I just wish the girls stop talking about breast size and how important it is. That's probably not possible with those two.
