OH GOD IT'S COMING!
OH GOD IT'S COMING!
How many of you have watched the original Godzilla film? I have, albeit a VHS copy dubbed in English, not an original Japanese copy. I found it to be a pretty enjoyable flick when I was a young'un.

If Godzilla were an actor, he'd have almost as many film credits on IMDb as Ron Jeremy, but that hasn't stopped the latest reports of a new Godzilla franchise reboot-- hopefully a better one than the '98 Godzilla flick featuring Ferris Bueller himself. Yes, I saw that one too, and it was pretty bad.

The new project, according to The Escapist, comes from Legendary Pictures, also known as those people responsible for the recent Christian Bale Batman flicks. That's all w'eve got by way of details, but at least it gives us room for hope.

What do you think?

Wait. Wait. Wait.

Wait.

ANOTHER America Godzilla? Why? Didn't we learn our lesson the first time? The real Godzilla already kicked the American one's ass in Godzilla: Final Wars anyway. Do we really need to go through this again. Leave Godzilla to the Japanese guys in the rubber suits.

I thought you were joking with the Ron Jeremy comment.  He has HUNDREDS of acting credits!

I'm not sure who he is though...  could someone please explain to me, in detail, their favourite scene/movie with him in it?

"ET:  The Extra Testicle" sounds like a parody of sorts.  Is Ron Jeremy a comedic genious?

@Arjuna: Yes, the Ron Jeremy comment was what we call "hyperbole"-- exaggeration to make a point and/or for comedic effect :D

Even though the first American attempt at a Godzilla movie sucked, I kinda want to see a remake of King Kong vs. Godzilla using Peter Jackson's Kong and Emmerich's Godzilla. That would be badass...sorta.

As cool as it would be it would be a hard thing to do as they`d probably want to make it canon. The original Zilla is dead and turned into a cyborg and Zilla. jr (not from the cartoon or from the cartoon doesn`t really matter) is killed by the real Gojira in final wars so there is no more American Zilla to go by.

I don't think movie companies (at least American) would give a crap about cannon as long as they could make a few millions out of it. And a CG King Kong vs. Godzilla movie would make a lot of money.

As far as i know the people of T ri-Star (aka we couldnt make a good movie if it could save out lives) can`t do a thing without Toho`s approval so it doesnt matter if they don`t give a crap as long as Toho hates the original movie and the creature Tri star can`t do a thing. o and Toho makes pretty much everything cannon cuz they do give a crap.

Being a die-hard fan and purist I think there is hope. If they get the design and character based on original Japanese character then I’m up for it. Also die-hard Toho fans should not worry, since Toho plans to continue the Godzilla franchise in Japan. Who knows if this American reboot comes out before Toho brings him back then they have the potential of re-boosting his popularity for the general public, then when Toho brings Godzilla back they might start release them in America theaters also. I have my fingers crossed. It’s good to know that people in the US hasn’t forgotten about Godzilla since he is a cultural icon. My hopes for this American reboot are:

1.      Keep with the original character.

2.      Give Godzilla a villain to fight.

3.      Let Toho have some involvement on it.

4.      I don’t mind if Godzilla or his opponents are CGI as long as the directors don’t do there so called Hollywood realism concept where they make their characters so fragile they are like an animal (lol! America Godzilla, Transformers & Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen)

5.      Even it doesn’t take place in Japan; I hope they pay homage to the original film series.

6.      No young actors (like Transformers had Shia Labeouf, no people around that age.) and NO TEENAGERS! I know that teenagers are the big style here in America, but I can’t bear to have teenagers star in a Godzilla movie.

Other then that I think Legendary Pictures will do a fine job at rebooting Godzilla.

Considering today's trends in American movies/tv/music I wouldn't be shocked if the Godzilla movie had some kind of glittler-wearing, baseball-playing vampires in it.

I just hope it's not GINO all over again. Godzilla is my favorite cult character, so I'd be upset if they make him a tunahead again. But I have hopes it will be good. Look at what they were able to do with the Batman franchise; they redefined it. Toho had better be on them like the runs, cause I want the film to be authentically close to Gojira. Hell, make the whole film spoken only in Japanese with subtitles.  Kinda like Eastwood did with Letters from Iwo Jima, all Japanese, but with Western filming styles. I'm still debating the idea of having another monster in the film. I felt like the first film should be more character development towered over Godzilla and his conflict with the world. It would be difficult bringing in other monster from somewhere else. We have Godzilla, product of nuclear radiation, and here comes another  monster from space just wouldn't make sense. But if they did, there needs to be a good background story. I think like how they used Scarecrow in Batman Begins, they could bring in a less notable monster; I would like them to bring Varan.

They better at least have the atomic breath, if Tuna head wants to impress the real Gojira

It has to be blue, not any other color. People get confused with distinguishing what its made of. It's not fire, it's nuclear energy.
