Hello everyone!

Here is a synopsis written by our wiki editors: DocHaus, MohsinMan99, HalberdierV2, and Annabanana

Anime Synopsis

Japan has been conquered by aliens from outer space called the Amanto. The city of Edo (Tokyo, before 1868) has been transformed into a weird mish-mash of traditional Japanese culture intermixing with futuristic alien technology, resulting in what mostly resembles modern-day Japan, as the country appears to have mostly accepted the rules of the Amanto. Several samurai rallied to fight them off in a brief rebellion, but in the end they were unsuccessful, and the Amanto ended up banning all swords in public.

Gintama focuses mostly on the "Yorozuya" (the Odd Jobs Trio), consisting largely of the silver-haired ronin Gintoki Sakata, glasses-wearing Shinpachi Shimura, the incredibly strong alien Kagura and her giant pet dog Sadaharu. In this version of Edo, they simply live paycheck to paycheck doing everything from fighting villains to dressing up in costumes, even though some folks occasionally try to use them to rekindle the great war against the Amanto.

Movie

Gintama: Shinyaku Benizakura-hen is scheduled to release until May 29th in North America. This is the first time that Gintama will have a dub cast.

Synopsis by Anime News Network:

The silver-haired samurai Sakata Gintoki investigates the disappearance of a legendary sword named Benizakura while his partners Kagura and Shimura Shinpachi try to find out what has happened to Gintoki's friend, Kotaro Katsura.

Hopefully, the list does not confuse you. I realize that you cannot caption the images if you add a list to a blog. Next time, I'll create a table manually.

I thought Gintama would be difficult to translate stateside, considering the various jokes that assume you have basic knowledge of Japanese history and/or pop culture. Even in the Crunchyroll version they sometimes have to come up with extra annotations to the subtitles just so the western audience will get the joke (and ruin it in the process, sadly). Having said that, I am curious how they will pull this off with the dubbed version. Best of luck to 'em.

Great input, DocHaus. I remember MohsinMan99 always correcting me and breaking down the jokes to me such as the runny diarrhea.

Christ Patton as Gintoki?! No way, I think Crispin Freeman would be a better match, seeing that Freeman has been voicing a lot of characters that Tomokazu Sugita (Gintoki's seiyuu) voices.

@KuroNekoXIII:

Thanks for the comment, Kuro. I don't know the voice actors/actresses well. I'll find out if I like it when I buy the DVD when my friend and I pooled our money in.

@takashichea: No prob! Yea I'll probably give it a shot and see how well the dub cast is. I usually like watching things subbed though :P

@DocHaus: @KuroNekoXIII:

I couldn't find a trailer in dub. I posted Japanese trailers instead. Let's hope these videos don't spoil too much.

I didn't know Gintama had serious fights and blood baths. I always thought it was a slapstick, parody anime series.

@takashichea: Oh it is mostly slapstick, but the Benizakura arc just happens to be a "serious" Gintama story.

@takashichea: Thanks for sharing the trailers!

I'm not quite sure, but do I need to watch any Gintama eps before I watch this movie (like will I not get stuff, or will it spoil?) I've watched random and few eps of Gintama so I'm not sure.
