The anime? The movie? Which one? Read the manga? Help me!

@LordCraven:  I would suggest watching the original Ghost in the Shell movie first to get into the world/timeline of Ghost in the Shell, then move on to Ghost in the Shell anime franchise ( Stand Alone Complex, S.A.C: 2nd Gig, and then watch Ghost in the Shell 2.0 (the movie) and Ghost in the Shell: Innocence). I have not read the manga, so experiment with it while you watch the anime. Enjoy!

S.A.C. is pretty stand alone and you can won't be lost if you skip that before watching the movie.  Personally, I think the movie pales in comparison to the shows enough to where I'd say you can/should skip it and go straight to the good stuff.
