Ghost in the Shell Forum

Bandai Entertainment is releasing Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence on Blu-Ray, but now fans in North America can get its predecessor, the groundbreaking 1995 anime film, on BD as well. According to ICv2, Anchor Bay-- who I just mentioned as releasing Tokyo Zombie on DVD later this year –will be releasing Ghost in the Shell on Blu Ray, with all of its CGI completely re-digitized to boost the quality. The 2D animation has also been cleaned but is otherwise unchanged, so no fears there.

No official release date has been issued but ICv2 promises more information as it comes available, which I will of course pass on to you as soon as I can!

So I ask you, dear Vice Squad: to buy, or not to buy? I'm thinking buy.

Wasn't a  Ghost in the Shell 2.0 made, might it be this?

I'm pretty sure this WILL be GiTS 2.0, in which case they have made some pretty serious changes - replaced some large chunks of 2d with CGI - the original didn't really contain much CGI at all, apart from the computer interface sequences.
