Gennai's Assistant's character design in the anime series is credited to Katsunori Shibata. He makes his first appearance in the Sengoku Collection episode Knowledge Master where he is voiced by Hiromi Igarashi.

Gennai's Assistant aids Gennai Hiraga in creating the Wandering Mountain Woman time machine by offering moral support and words of encouragement. In a freak accident, he is hit by a car and gives up on his dream of becoming a soccer player. Not wanting to let his dreams be crushed, Gennai uses the Wandering Mountain Woman to travel into the past and prevent the accident from happening.
