A Japanese production studio formerly known as Pioneer LDC.
History
Geneon Entertainment is a Japanese production company. Originally called Pioneer, LDC, it was renamed Geneon after it was acquired by Dentsu in July 2003. The Japanese company has an American branch, although it closed shop in late 2007.
Demise of Geneon USA
Geneon USA first announced in August 2007 that it was closing down its sales and marketing division in favor of outsourcing to ADV, but the deal fell apart. Details were never revealed but there were some changes in ADV's capital investors shortly prior to that which may have been related to the cancellation of the deal. In any case, Geneon had already laid off their sales and marketing staff and announced that they would be focusing primarily on portfolio management from then on, leading to speculation that they would function as a liaison between other anime companies and Geneon's Japanese office, not unlike Kadokawa Pictures USA's role between Kadokawa and American companies. It is unclear if this has in fact been the case.
Most of Geneon USA's titles, left in limbo when the company ceased production on them, were picked up by FUNimation in July of 2008.
