We don’t cover show announcements that often these days, but when one pertains to Gainax producing their first live action show, attention is most certainly due. ANN’s relayed the studio’s announcement of EA’s ROCK, which sounds a bit like the super-sentai answer to downbeat slacker superhero comedies like THE SPECIALS and NO HEROICS, et al. It’ll be about what the Kankaku Senshi Gokan Five do with themselves after a long dry spell of Earth-shaking threats has forced them to get real jobs at an Airsoft Shooting Arcade.
(And by the way - - are there any Airsoft Shooting Arcades in the States? I bet you get to go full-auto in one of those. That prospect's totally rad.)
The plan right now is to roll out a season of 13 micro-episodes starting in April. They’re saying it’s going to be about the “listless minutiae of everyday life,” but I’ve got a hunch there’s going to plenty of hysterics peppered in the humdrum. My mind’s positively reeling at the prospect of seeing how the sort of madcap comedy in FLCL and ABENOBASHI looks like with real people.
