What do you think the blond girl’s gun in the right is supposed to be shaped like? Look a little closer…
That’s right, a pair of white panties with a red bow-tie for the iron sights, fitting the girl’s name - - Panty. This is the first promo art Gainax has released for their new toon, STOCKING & PANTY WITH GARTER BELT (by way of Japanator). You can probably guess that the brunette with the sword is Stocking and (coincidentally) she’s wearing exactly one stocking. It’s funny how the tone I’ve inferred for this series has changed as we’ve gotten more information about it over time. Initially, all we knew was that it was set in 1900-1930’s Britain. So I was thinking it might be a steampunk story - - maybe like LAST EXILE or BACCANO. Then, we got the official synopsis from Gainax and the story about two angels haunting spirits on Earth sounded a little heady, maybe a little more serious.
Well, this image certainly puts the whole thing in the theater of the absurd. It looks a lot more in with the wacky FLCL vein than somber EVANGELION vein to my eyes. But what do you lunatics in the Anime Vice community think?
