Gai Tsutsugami is the 17-year-old leader of the revolutionary group "Undertaker". He aims to use the "The King's Power" to aid his success in his resistance.

Gai Tsutsugami is one of the main protagonists of the " Guilty Crown" franchise. He is the 17-year-old leader of the anti-government group called "Funeral Parlor", also known as " Undertaker" . He was the one who gave "Undertaker" it's name, and this is the description he gave when he was asked why he chose such a sinister name:

"The world always forces a choice on its inhabitants. Survival of the fittest….that is the law this world operates by. We continue to offer songs of mourning to ones selected out, hence, “Undertaker”. The name signifies that we are always on the singing side – that we are the survivors." - Gai Tsutsugami, Guilty Crown Episode 2: Survival of the Fittest.

Gai is very charismatic, and is well-known and feared for his strength. Gai was the one who ordered Inori to steal the Void Genome so that he can use it and obtain " The King's Power" . He was planning to use that power against the GHQ, however, Shu was the one who ended up obtaining it. Because of that, Gai expects Shu to fight along Undertaker and take responsibility for the power he was granted.

The original character art for Gai Tsutsugami was created by Redjuice Graphics. Takeshi Shinji Wada, the producer of the anime, explains that Gai's character is supposed to contrast that of Shu Ouma ; thus making them both character foils. Shu is the introverted, quiet, and normal high school student; whereas Gai is the charismatic, talented, and strong leader-type.
