This April, a live action adaptation of Sakae Esuno's Future Diary manga will premiere on Fuji TV's Saturday night drama slot. This new series will be titledMirai Nikki -Another:World-, and drama star, Masaki Okada (Otomen, Juryoku Pierrot) will be playing the protagonist.

For those of you who don't know, Future Diary is a manga series about a game of survival with twelve contestants. Their only weapon are their cell phones, and the rules are simple: before the world ends on day 90, the contestants must to find and kill all the other contestants, and the last one standing will become the new God of Time and Space. However, this new series contains a twist.

In this survival game of diaries that tell the future, Okada will not be playingYukiteru Amano but instead an original character to the series named Hoshino Arata (星野新太). The sript is written by Yuusuke Watanabe (Gantz and 20th Century Boys movies), and according to Mainichi's Mantanweb:

"The plot line is an original story about a lethargic college student played by Okada, who keeps a diary and doesn't believe in the future or effort. Through his diary, he gets dragged into the survival game, and while he used to run away all the time, through his experiences, he eventually decides to attempt to survive till the end."

Personally, Future Diary is one of my favorite manga series but I can't imagine the series without Yukiteru as the lead. Still, color me interested with themes that involve "destruction and regeneration" and "the ultimate love". The anime adaptation begun back in October of last year and continues to be streamed by FUNimation here.

What can you make of the "future" of this Future Diary? Are you interested?

Great anime thus far, even with Yukkiteru being such a wimp. Though I'm wondering how the IRL adaptation is going to turn out.

@KawiGreen: I'm wondering the same thing here... There's a chance that this will fail miserably without Yuki. On the other hand, this new character might not be such a wimp which will allow better story points.
