I heard back from FUNimation about the earlier rumors that they were dubbing Summer Wars, and was told pretty clearly that they don't have it and haven't started production on it, so it seems that Manga Entertainment UK's statement that they had to wait for FUNi's dub may have been a bit off. (I'm told that they'd love to have it, however.)
But they have plenty of other stuff for you: FUNi has rescued the license to Chobits, which was originally licensed to Geneon, and will be releasing the series on DVD and on Blu-Ray in 2011.
FUNi has also picked up the Eden of the East movies-- two animated films created as sequels to the Production I.G TV anime of the same name, which FUNi is also releasing later this year. They also picked up the license to Air Communication, which is a recap/mash-up of the original TV series. Also of interest: they WILL get to use the original opening music, by Oasis. (Sometimes music rights make it hard to use music of a western origin in the North American DVD releases.)
Oh, and if that wasn't quite enough for you, we've also had word from user Dream that FUNi picked up Spice and Wolf II (although we didn't get a press release on it).
Fast times at FUNimation high, eh? I'm reeeeally looking forward to Eden of the East, and it'll be fun to see people re-discover Chobits as well. I bet the CLAMP anime still holds up (of course, it's only eight years old).
