Oh geez… Armstrong and Sig totally have a serious man-crush for eachother.
Out of all the intercut battles that’ve been rolling along lately, I’d say I like the takedown of Sloth the most. It’s the one that feels like an authentic hatchet job. Mustang will show up and take Envy out with style and finesse (only for everybody to bog him down in debates how he should be feeling.) Alex and Olivier, though, they had to get their hands dirty and every inch they take from Sloth had to be won through blood, sweat and determination.
Considering how indomitable and unrelenting Olivier’s been up until this point, it says something that one of the most effective scenes here was her having to take a breather.
Father and Hohenheim’s duel of the wizards was a spectacular show piece. I continue to be impressed with the animation in this show. It puts a lot of features to shame! And I did pat myself on the back for cluing in to what they Van spells out explicitly here - - that Father turning his vices into beings also expunged all the emotions that the frivolous, sadistic homunculus had in his early days. I’m starting to wonder if there’s some psycho-philosophical metaphor to be found in how these dopplegangers (effectively two halves of one being) are sicing their respective children ob eachother.
And speaking of children, here comes the nastiest one of all… the appropriately-angry Wrath! What timing. I honestly think this show’s been dealing the surprise, dramatic reveal card a little too often (Sig and Izumi’s entrance was pushing it a bit,) but this is another cliffhanger that’s got me really wanting to watch the next episode immediately. With most of the heroes weakened, this is definitely the worst moment for such a dangerous baddy to re-appear.
