My, what a tangled web we weave! The big appeal of a show stretching out over this many episodes is getting to see this great kind of complexity.
Whether or not Ling’s consciousness is in charge... Greed’s status as a rogue homunculis… Ed going for the nigh-brazen move of offering his services to a villain… sheltered little miss May being easy prey for the traps of Envy’s forked tongue… Olivier using some flashy misdirection to protect her family…
I love it all. I love this show!
Hell, there’s so much going on now that they're even advancing the plot in the outro credits! And I'm helpless to do anything but stick around for it all. I am, indeed, hooked. I've been "in too deep" for long time.
That being said...
C’mon, even though it made for a funny gag, don’t you think Olivier punked Alex way too easily? He bared his manly chest, but not once did this State Alchemist ever whip out his famous alchemy. Considering how quickly he’s drawn that voodoo out in the past, you would’ve thought he might have used something that would’ve given him a fast and decisive edge. Hm? Just maybe?
The punchline with the Armstrong elders strolling off had a great ADAMMS FAMILY macabre to it. Alex and Olivier might not resemble Pugsly and Wednesday too well, but I was half expecting to hear some hurky-jerky piano notes and finger snaps as the scene faded out.
The "Promised Day" is of course, looming, and the noble resistors are passing secret notes like moon cakes at Lunar New Year. I’m sure there's going to be plenty of fireworks when the day comes - - some probably even caused by alchemy.
