  Ohhhhh... I had you pegged all wrong!
 Ohhhhh... I had you pegged all wrong!

I guess this makes me a big sucker, doesn’t it? Truth be told, I kind of suspected that not everything relating to Ross’ death last episode was as it seemed. She got burned off-screen and the body they found was scorched beyond recognition - - you don’t have to be L to pick up on those clues. I suppose I was a kind-of close for concluding that Barry and Mustang were in kahoots. So I was wrong about them working for the Homunculi conspiracy; they were actually working for the lost prince? Is that right? The explanation went by pretty quickly. If it is the case, I imagine he’d have to do some fast talking while they were in the jail for the break-out.

We have all this talk about prison escapes and I’m neglecting to mention hijacking, as that a spetz natz and Mick “Mankind” Foley did for this episode. In regard to the former, I suppose I shouldn’t be so rational and specific about where and when the anachronisms in this universe come from, but it’s still jarring to see a guy show up in this setting who looks like he just wandered out of a COUNTER STRIKE death match. In respect to later, please tell me you’re noticing some pretty strong similarities between Barry’s feral human form and this guy. I know that hardcore wrestling is supposed to be even bigger in Japan so, for all I know, it could be very well be an intentional reference.

Things are on the upswing in this episode. Ross isn’t dead, a lot of the Ishavalens are alive and some of them are actually rather civil. I did think it was pretty amusing that their approach to kidnapping Ed was to basically ask for his permission.

“May we make you a political prisoner for our cause?”

And, correct me if wrong, but have Ed’s auntie and uncle ever been mentioned prior to this?

Watch this episode, “The Naked Palm” below, decide for yourself and read my comments on the previous episode here.

I didn't know they had an aunt or uncle, unless you mean Whinry's parents.

Mustang works for Mustang. I'd say that he works for himself, but he doesn't. In fact, I'd say that he works for his subordinates.

Yeah, that works.
And next episode is the one I kept going on about. I thought it was episode 18 for some reason, bnut episode 19 is one of this show's fabled "Shit Just Got Real" moments.

Yes, I said one. Gurren Lagann had a few, with the K-man's death, the arrival of the Anti-Spirals, and the Kittan Run.

This show, on the other hand, has many. First was the second episode, in the flashback. Second was the Greed Arc. Third is next episode.

And there are many, many more after this. FMA: Brotherhood has been compared to Gurren Lagann with the sheer levels of awesome that it reaches, but unlike Gurren Lagann, it keeps this awesome set firmly in reality. There is no screaming about how their burning blood will break through fate, because this show doesn't need hammy speeches or giant mecha to be awesome.

Next episode, you meet the show's answer to batman, and that's not even the awesome part.

Just a quick FYI Tom. The people with red eyes are Ishbalans, not Ishavalens. My thoughts of what Mustang should have done in the last ep proved to be actually what he did do so hooray for me! Mustang sure talks weird on the phone to make sure he isn't discovered. I'm curious as to why the Ishbalans are at Xerces and why Ed was suddenly by himself. Riza sure is in a pickle isn't she? No one is working for the prince, either.

As far as the actual conspiracies of FMA: B are concerned it seems if things are not what they seem then they are the opposite. However, I'm sure there will be some curveballs coming up that will slash such a hypothesis. In connection, I think Father was shown far too early in the series.

@sotyfan16: Episode 1, or when Greed was captured?
I've seen the full series already, and I know the conspiracy inside and out. And my friend, you are wrong.
Seriously, do not underestimate this show, even when you are thoroughly impressed with it already.

@Tom_Pinchuk:
So Tom, after a few episodes, what do you think of the new opening and ending?  Personally, Hologram is my least favorite of the openings (the third, which starts on episode 27 is my favorite), but Let It Out is my favorite of the endings.

@rubberluffy: Hologram is my least favourite op too, but I never really liked Let It Out until the "ALPHONSE!!" scene, at which point I loved it.

 Fourth opening, Period, is my fave opening, though Golden Time Lover is a close second.

Actually, there's something to ask you about Tom. What are your thoughts on Anime openings? Too long? Too much? Just right?

@SamJaz: i agree with you though Rain kinda took the 2nd spot for me just because it fits that arc so well. Though Shunkan Sentimental will always be the best ending. You really get pumped when you hear that one and the video's pretty damn epic.

Yeah next episode is probably the best episode from the first half.

Sheesh, people, don't worry so much about the spelling.  Between the fandubs and the official translations there have to be like 5 different romanizations for some of the names.

PS. Mustang owns.

I just noticed. You called this the Naked Palm, but the Youtube link calls it the Arrogant Palm. Interesting Kanji alternative reading there.

I haven't paid much attention to the closing songs but I kind of doubt right now that I will like any of the openings better than "Again".

@vergilius:

I was just informing Tom. No need to be harsh. They were also called Ishbalans in the orignal FMA but I will give you that I've only watched the dubs so maybe their name is different in the subs.

@SamJaz:

I can't remember ep 1 but even so I think his appearance in the killing of Greed was too soon. His mysteriousness should have been kept (completely) until at least half way. Also, I understand that my hypothesis is wrong which is pretty much what I stated. I'm taking Brotherhood ep by ep so as not to think too much and enjoy the ride.

heh never heard it described that way but that is accurate.  I really have to say I don't get the people who like the other version better than this one...this one is oh sooo much better.  And yeah if you couldn't tell from the comments on the last episode it was really hard for us not laugh when we read your prediction and knowing how far off you were....never try to predict anime...you will loose.
