Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is the second anime series based on Hiromu Arakawa's original manga. Edward Elric with his brother Alphonse failed to resurrect their mother. Now, they travel across the country with their alchemy to restore their bodies as they hunt for the mythical Philosophers Stone and correct their mistake.
Overview
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
A fantasy-action series with a far more Western style of culture that many other manga. The first episode aired on April 5, 2009 and had a total of sixty-four episodes, and the final episode aired on July 4, 2010. The rating in the US was given at TV-14, despite the graphic depictions of violence and use of blood. FMA: Brotherhood was produced by BONES. The U.S. distribution company FUNimation Entertainment%26nbsp%3Bstreamed the series on their website with English subtitles four days after they would air in Japan. They would later even expand the series to the FUNimation's own Youtube channel. On February 13, 2010, the English dub of the series premiered on the Cartoon Network late night program, Adult Swim.
The FMA: Brotherhood anime was directed by Yasuhiro Irie, an episode director of the first FMA series. The music for the series was composed by Akira Senju. Though much of the main cast was already designed by Arakawa, Hiroki Kanno worked on the character art/design work for the anime.
For a Japanese series it was notable that no character appeared in the series with a Japanese name. All were of Western or Chinese in origin. Many of the popular trappings of anime were also no present. Throughout the series run, there was very few instances of fanservice. There was a heavy use of over the top reactions scenes that cause the characters to become far more cartoonish than their original designs. This also matched the art style of Arakawa's original work.
Plot
Edward and Alphonse Elric
In order to try and make right their mistakes Edward was given a mechanical, artificial prosthetic arm and leg called Automail. With this, Edward went out to become to youngest State Alchemist in history, but is also tied as a dog to the Amestrain State Military. With his metallic leg and arm he's given the title, the Fullmetal Alchemist. Now, Ed and Alphonse travel over the country with the singular goal of returning their bodies back to normal. The only way they can bring their bodies back from the other side is with the mythical gem know as the Philosophers Stone.
The Homunculus - The Seven Deadly Sins
Not all those the brothers meet are foes. Edward and Al are assisted by the squad of Roy Mustang, Alex%26nbsp%3B Louis Armstrong, his fearsome sister Olivier Milla Armstrong, and the twelfth prince of Xing, Ling Yao. Though all have their own goals, they have come together in their own ways to find the truth of this world and break the chain of hatred that has it encircled.
More than anyone could realize the path they all walk on will lead them deeper into the darkness. The world is now at stake, and they may find their own truth on the other side or destruction. The key to their fate is in the Philosophers Stone.

Alterations
The FMA: Brotherhood anime series was designed to closely follow the original canon of the manga it was based upon, but several of the first episodes were either not canon at all or had been altered from the original series. It wasn't until FMA: Brotherhood Episode 4 that the series began to more fully align with the canon story and continued until the finale in Episode 64 with only occasional minor changes.FMA: Brotherhood Changes
Isaac MacDougal appeared in episode one, but was not a part of the manga.
- The first episode of FMA: Brotherhood Episode 1 was a completely original to the series and none of these events were in the manga. Including the character introduced.
- The events in Liore against the corrupt Father Cornello were abbreviated, but the ending was closer to the manga with some changes.
- The events at the city of Youswell coal mine and Yoki were not present in Brotherhood, but it's story was summarized later in FMA: Brotherhood Episode 38 by Yoki from his own perspective, in a parody of old silent drama films.
- The hostage events on the train to East City were completely cut from the FMA: Brotherhood series.
- In the final episode, the continuity and events of the aftermath had some changes from the original ending of the manga, but none that really changed the results. The endings for each character was still the same in the end.
