Fu is the bodyguard of prince Ling Yao of the Xing Empire, and grandfather of Lan Fan.
Like his granddaughter, Fu is deeply loyal to the young Xingese prince Ling Yao. He is quite skilled for his old age, as shown when he and Lan Fan fought the Elric Brothers at Rush Valley. He temporary leaves Ling's side to help Maria Ross escape to Xing, and again when taking Lan Fan to get automail surgery. Fu and Lan Fan(with a new automail arm) later on return to the prince's side during the conflict with Pride and Gluttony, where their ability to sense Qi helps them in their fight.
In Chapter 98 of the manga Fu assists Ling/ Greed in his battle with Wrath/King Bradley. In a final attempt to defeat the homonculus, Fu leaps at Bradley with four grenades strapped to his stomach. Unfortunately Wrath counters this by cutting off all four fuses with one swing of Fu's sword, disabling all the grenades, and slicing the old man deep across the abdomen doing so. While apologizing to Ling for his failed attempt, Buccaneer makes a surprise attack by thrusting Wrath's own sword through Fu's dieing body from behind impaling the homonculus through the stomach. With his last dieing breath Fu thanks Buccaneer for helping him injure King Bradley.
