(Well it's been awhile since I've had the time to post here, but I hope you guys enjoy a recent rumor I've been doing some research on!)

For anyone not familiar with Verical Inc. Vertical is a North American manga & light novel publisher who is known for licensing more niche & obscure tiles than many of the well know manga publishers. In their recent survey asking which titles customers would be interested in seeing Vertical publish, the Yusuke Kishi light novel From The New World (Shin Sekai Yori) seemed to be a crowd favorite. From the New World’s recent popularity can be traced to its recent anime adaptation from A-1 Pictures, currently streaming on Cruncyroll. Through their Tumblr blog, The Diagonal, Vertical has tried their best to make clear their guidelines when considering titles to pick up. One of the more interesting bits of information found here are their requirements for novels. These guidelines are as followed: No serialized novels, One-shots only, keep one-shots to less than 400pgs, & no literary fiction. In another post they loosened up some of these by stating:

“1 volume and 300pgs. Might be up to doing 2 volumes at 500pgs combined. Basically… We avoid light novel series or most light novels in general.”

Aside from page count which I couldn't get a precise number from my research & would more than likely change when localized to English, From The New World hits many of these benchmarks. Vertical in answering customer questions on their blog has been hesitant in discussion of the title. When one fan asked about the title directly vertical gave this statement.

“I am currently in the process of reading it and our Editor-in-Chief who is our novels guru has enjoyed the book. But length of that book, it is three thick thick volumes, makes it a little scary for us as we tend to avoid serialized novel releases (we prefer one-shots).

Please purchase Crimson Labyrinth (Mr Kishi’s other novel) and like this post to let him know there is an audience for the title. Ideally we’d need 4.5K to make this work. Oh and one more thing. US, UK and Canada only. We don’t sell novels to the EU.”

As stated above Vertical has previously published author Yusuke Kishi’s other work, The Crimson Labyrinth. They also recently announced the licensing acquisition of the manga adaptation of From the New World & plan on a releasing the first volume this autumn. In previous interviews Vertical’s marketing manager Ed Chavez has stated his interest in hearing more from the hardcore manga audience & 4chanel crowd, & since I first stumbled upon this story in a forum discussion on 4chan I can only assume Vertical is following this as well.

While saying that they need 4,500 to make it work is talking about sells numbers, an outcry of response on this post could persuade them if they see an interest from fans & more importantly a market for the title.

Little late in replying since I didn't see this topic until now, but I doubt they'll get around to the novel. The thing is huge, and the fact they've licensed the manga might work against them.  Lots of fans have been saying they're not going to buy the manga, since it's basically yuri fanservice that strips out what people enjoyed from the series.

Man I REALLY hope they do the novel I would so buy this. Unfortunately the link is down is there an update on this? If they don't do it do you think we could get a more literary or sci-fi (which is really what this is) imprint to do it?
