One of Laxus's bodyguards and a member of Fairy Tail. He has the ability to create enchantments that trap people inside and force them to obey specific rules.
Freed is a member and the captain of the Raijinshuu, Laxus's personal bodyguards. He has been in another town for half of a year, but upon his return, he participated in Laxus' battle for Fairy Tail and hunted down many of its members to force Makarov to cave in and announce Laxus as his successor. But after being defeated by Mirajane, he turns over a new leaf and tries to convince Laxus to stop his ambitious and malicious plans. In the end, Laxus is defeated and expelled from the guild while Freed is given permission to remain a member after he cut his hair to demonstrate his loyalty to Fairy Tail. He then grows it back for no apparent reason.
Fairy Tail Stamp: Freed's tattoo is located on the back of his right hand.
Freed Justine, who is created by Hiro Mashima as a supporting character. Hiro Mashima did make some remarks on the character in volume thirteen. Freed is twenty years old, likes music, and dislikes gum. Because no one knew what type of magic he used prior to the Fighting Festival Arc, he was considered to be the most mysterious member of Fairy Tail after Mystogan and Gildarts. Since he was in another town at the time of the Phantom Guild Arc, he has not met some of the newer members of the guild, like Lucy, Juvia, and Gajeel. It was mentioned that he created the Raijinshuu because he idolized Laxus, but it was never mentioned why he idolizes Laxus.
In volume 27's About the Naming of the Characters 2, Hiro Mashima states that Fried's name was originally Albion. Since most of the Raijinshu had long names, Fried's name was shorten to serve as a balance. In his original design, Fried could attack his opponents with archaic words. This influence his current name, Furui-zo, which was shortened to Fried.
He first appears in Fairy Tail volume 13 and episode 42. His Japanese voice actor is Junichi Suwabe.
Freed's appearance has remained unchanged throughout the series with the exception of his hair. When he was first introduced, his hair went as far as his to lower back but following Laxus' expulsion from the guild, he had cut it to an incredibly short length to signify his repentance for his actions. However, shortly after, his hair grew back to its normal length and has remained like that ever since. Its definitely probable that he used his magic to regrow his hair in such a short amount of time.
Freed is fairly quiet, very reserved, and remains detached from events that go on in the Fairy Tail Guild. And like other members of the Raijinshuu, Freed is very loyal to Laxus, even to the point of turning his back on everyone as demonstrated when he mercilessly used his magic to inflict unimaginable pain and suffering on Elfman despite Mirajane's pleas to stop. But deep inside, he also cares very much for his friends and comrades in the guild. This was shown when he questioned Laxus if he really has to kill the other Fairy Tail members and when Reedus remarked that it isn't like Freed to be so cruel. After Laxus' defeat, Freed has become more kind, open and supportive of his friends after realizing the importance of their friendship. Because of his abilities, he believes that word choice and language are very important. Immensely proper, he is also a man of his word. When he feels indebted to someone, he will do whatever it takes to repay that debt. This was shown when Freed and Bixlow purposely lost against Lucy and Cana in the S-Class Trial because Freed owed them for what they did in the battle for Fairy Tail. Despite his reserved personality, he can also be very indecisive and emotional. For example, he has to stop walking when he questions if he should use his magic to help Wendy find shelter in the rain even when he's supposed to let her solve her own problems and mature, but he still wants to protect her because it's his responsibility. In all this indecision, he looks up at the sky and wonders what Laxus would do. This leads to the scene described below in the filler episode appearance: Wendy's New Big Mission?
Freed makes his first appearance in episode 42. He, Evergreen, and Bixlow are completely destroying a weak guild, and they talk about what Laxus is going to do. While Makarov is preparing for the Fantasia Parade with Mirajane, they receive news that Laxus is back in town, and Makarov reminisces about how Laxus used to love and respect the guild. And then the Miss Fairy Tail pageant starts with Mirajane, Cana, Bisca, Juvia, Levy, Erza, and Lucy as the contestants. They get turned to stone by Evergreen, and the guild is in an uproar. Laxus then announces that they will hold a competition to see who is the strongest in Magnolia. Freed appears with him, and it is revealed that Freed, Bixlow, and Evergreen are part of the Raijinshuu. Freed writes his runes around the guild, "anyone over eighty years old cannot leave this guild" which means everyone can leave the guild except Makarov. Natsu also cannot leave the guild despite his age being less than eighty years.
The members of the Fairy Tail Guild are caught in several rune traps by Freed, the rule is "only the strongest may leave", so they are forced to fight each other if they want to get out of the rune fields. During this time, he defeats Alzack by depriving him of oxygen with the use of his runes. Reedus was one of the members who did not get caught in the rune traps, so Makarov sends him to get help from Porlyusica out of town. However, Freed uses his runes again to stop Reedus from leaving town, and then shortly defeats him. After the other two members of the Raijinshuu are defeated, Freed attempts to make Cana and Juvia fight against each other with the use of his runes, but Juvia takes herself out by smashing a lacrima filled with lightning (a product of Laxus Dreyar's "Thunder Palace" spell) to prevent fighting Cana. Freed remarks that Juvia was from the Phantom Guild, and that she shouldn't be trusted as a Fairy Tail Guild member. Cana becomes enraged, but Freed also defeats her.
Later, Freed fights against Elfman. He writes runes on Elfman to inflict pain and suffering while Mirajane watched and yelled at him to stop. Just when Freed is about to kill Elfman, Mirajane's magic reawakens, and she uses a demon takeover. Freed uses his runes to create wings to fight against her, but she still had the upper hand. He then uses his runes again to become demon-like as well. However, it is clear that Mirajane is stronger since she is an S-class mage. Mirajane is also about to kill him, but she remembers her little sister Lisanna, and stops her fist shortly before it crushes Freed. She changes back, losing her will to fight, and she tells him that they are friends. He denies it, saying that he need only obey Laxus. She continues talking, and he thinks back to his older memories. He cries when he realizes that she is right, and says that he never wanted to do this. He then makes up with her.
Afterwards, Natsu and Gajeel are freed from the runes and fight against Laxus. Laxus uses Fairy Law, but it has no effect. Freed appears and explains to Laxus that Fairy Law could not hurt anyone because Laxus's heart believed that the members of the Fairy Tail Guild were his comrades, not enemies, and that he obviously still cared for them. He tells Laxus that he should give up now and go talk to Makarov. After the Fantasia parade, Freed cuts his hair short in order to convince Makarov to stay as the master of the guild.
This ability allows Freed to write runes that, depending on what he writes, will affect the victim(s) within the boundaries of the runes. An example would be when he writes runes around the town of Magnolia, preventing anyone from leaving town in episode 43. However, his runes are not limited to being written on the air or on the ground, but he can write them on his opponents and on himself. For example, he uses his runes on himself to gain wings, and later to become a demon in a fight against Mirajane. It is also shown that he can use his runes to teleport himself in the filler episode 75. Freed's runes are also shown to report current statuses of battle. This was shown at the end of episode 42, when Alzack, Jet, and Droy are trapped in a rune field and forced to fight each other, Natsu and Makarov read the runes back at the guild where they are trapped and see "Alzack Vs. Jet Vs. Droy". They also see the end result as well (WINNER: Alzack).

|Yami no Ecriture: Death||Although this attacked was not completed, as the name suggests, it most probably brings about death on whom the rune had been written.|
Enchantment - Freed's enchantments are traps that can be deactivated by completing the requirements set by Freed.
Teleportation - Freed can use his runes to teleport himself from one location to another. These runes float through the air and unite to form Freed's body again.
- Freed was shown to be able to cut Alzack's wind bullets and defeats Reedus using only his sword. His sword resembles a rapier, and it has a Fairy Tail symbol carved on the hilt. It is shown that he sometimes uses his sword as a pen to write his runes.
Freed appears in a major filler arc and a few filler episodes.
Freed and his teammates, Evergreen and Bixlow, are confronting Daphne's dragonoid while protecting the citizens from destruction.
This is one of Freed's biggest roles in any filler episode. He accompanies Wendy and Happy on a journey to the man who hired Natsu and his team to perform a play for him. Also, this episode reveals how loyal Freed is to Laxus. He still thinks about him, remembering how Laxus usually knows what to do, and imagines that he's up in the sky. Then he yells at it demanding that he tell him what to do. Freed also shows off his cooking skills when he prepares flying fish for Wendy and Happy, but flying fish taste awful no matter how one cooks it. Freed is a man who will eat anything without a complaint, as shown when he eats the unappetizing animals with a straight face. In this episode, Freed and the others are the useless ones who pass out at the theater, so Wendy has to pick them up to avoid the man who owns the theater from getting angry. He also agreed to pay her.
Freed is seen flying when Jet unleashes his devastating speed at the start of the race. During the race, Freed traps Evergreen, Bisca Mulan, and Max in his runes. His rule forces them to read and answer difficult tests if they want to escape. However, Freed cannot trap Erza who sees his trap easily, and she quickly retaliates by trapping Freed in a sphere of swords. In the end, Freed does not become one of top three winners like Happy, nor is he one of the last place losers like Natsu.
