Death the Kid decided that he would like to be a student at Shibusen, and this episode was all about his first day. The first scene we get is Maka and Tsubaki sat in class together, wondering where their partners were, with Tsubaki imagining a situation in which Black Star left her to be partners with Soul. Not noticing much, Maka continues to go on bout her worries, but finally she asks Tsubaki what was going on, and Tsubaki just smiled and shrugged it off. Her imagination was not far off as the two were indeed teaming up, as we saw them both outside of the school, moping around bored. Black Star was his usual self, going on about how he would take down Death The Kid, because no one was any better than him. Soul, getting bored, was about ready to give up on the whole thing. When Death the Kid arrived at school late he explained why, because he was not going to leave his house on a unsymmetrical time. Soul and Black Star challenged him to a fight, though Death shrugged it off as though it were nothing, until the two began going at him physically, which was when he asked Patty and Liz to transform into weapons. Before they did, however, Liz did complain about not getting any rest, and how they were constantly fighting. The difference in strength was made quickly apparent, as Black Star and Soul couldn't land a hit, and couldn't work together well as a team. When Tsubaki, Maka, and Franken Stein finally arrive outside, they watch the fight with embarresment. However, Maka is taught by Franken how to tell that they were going to loose, because Black Star and Soul couldn't combine and get their soul wavelengths together, thus making them an awful match up. Black Star did manage to land a hit, however, using his special technique of hitting Death with a direct attack of his Soul wavelength. When tired of the fight, Death the Kid used Resonance of Souls, granting him the power of Death Cannons. The fight was over once he fired them, and Patty and Liz were both glad it was over. After the battle though, Death the Kid coughed up blood and passed out once he realized his hair had been cut unsymmetricly during the battle, showing his only known weakness, his mental illness.
