Free realizes he could have broken himself out of prison 200 years ago

Free had spent 200 years with a wrap around his eyes in order to keep him from using the power in his eye which he stole from a witch. He was eventually freed by Eruka Frog. During their escape he said he went to jail willingly because he was fascinated by the idea of digging himself out, the long patient process is something that intrigued him. However they served him food with chopsticks which foiled his plan. Eruka said he could have just peed on the bars of the jail and over the years slowly melted them, a realization that caused him to start wailing his head against a tree. They were interrupted by the guards of the prison who attacked them, only to have Free reveal that he is immortal. After defeating them Medusa introduced herself as the one who arranged his escape. Free said that the idea of joining her sounded like it would amuse him, so he would join her just for that. However he decided he needed a new name since his old one was long gone, so he chose the name "Free."

Free reveals his transformation

Free's first assignment for Medusa was to test out and battle Maka and Soul to see how the black blood in Soul's body would affect him. He battled them on a bridge where Maka said that his soul was a bizarre mixture of many things, including a werewolf and a witch. Free used his wolf transformation and his ice magic to fight them, but however Soul and Maka were able to use soul resonance to take him by surprise and knock him off of the bridge where he was frozen in a block of his own magic.
