Vash should've listened to Johnny Cash! If you can't trust "a boy named Sue," then you better not trust a little lad named Kaite. And that kid should've paid attention to ROBOCOP 2. He would've learned that any lil' gangster is just asking to get wasted by whatever grown-up bad guys he's colluding with. Man, and speaking of whom, I didn't catch this scumbag's name, but he had to have had one of the silliest-looking outfits I've seen outside of ZARDOZ. A lot of snark gets leveled at superheroes for their ridiculous costumes, and a lot of times it's deserved, but the shoe’s definitely on the other foot with this guy. Just what was up with those turbines on his shoulders? Also, I'm all for the out-and-out diabolical, but this dude's characterization was "evil" to the point of cartoonish. His plan didn't even make sense of a madman; it just seemed like they were trying to think of the easiest ways to make this guy nasty for nasty's sake.
It took five episodes for Vash to actually use a gun - - is this the first time he actually gets hurt? When he got thwacked on the head with that duct, it seemed notable. Although, the one time he didn't get hurt was pretty amusing, too; that is, when the kid tried to put him into a standing arm bar. I’ve practiced Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for a few years and have always wondered why locks, chokes and submission holds aren’t used more often in fiction. Granted, ground fighting can make for some poor spectacle, but I think you can get a lot of mileage out of quicker-acting-than-in-reality holds that break bones and conk bad guys out. Especially for a character as leery about killing like Vash, I figure that'd be a way to keep the blood off his hands without him looking like a wuss.
Ooooooh… and we've reached out first cliffhanger. Guess we’re finally into the "real" story now, aren't we?
