Far away from any kind of civilization where nature was still untouched by human hands and where no man would wander off, not intentionally nor by chance, was a small hill. Though it was exactly that hill that destroyed the previously described the picture. It was a giant of steel and concrete, the very symbol of humanity's progress and enslavery of nature. It was one of the smaller countless bases that served as a meeting point for Cerberus squads. Despite the peaceful appearance that allowed it to blend in with the calm nature around it, the base was on high alert right now.
Someone infiltrated the base and had stolen some information that was stored in the database of this building. This was a small base when compared to the main HQs Cerberus had, but for them every little piece of information was important and they wouldn't let it slip even if it was completely useless to anyone including themselves. Whoever stole the information was now trying to escape through the underground tunnels that covered the whole area. Those were complex labyrinths deep below the surface, their main purpose was to act as bunkers for Cerberus in case a war would escalate into a nuclear assault. The tunnels were completely dark right now, but they had glowing lines running across the floor, each single one of them leading to an exit.
But all the exists were currently locked down, all but one. They wanted to force the intruder into a specific distance. At that exit, on a small hill nearby was a man in Cerberus uniform. That was Legato Winters, a top solider of his branch. It was unusual for soldiers to act solo, but Legato's squad wasn't even on duty that they and he was the only one at the base and furthermore everyone there was confident enough that Legato could take the intruder on all by himself anyway.
Legato already drew his Kaiser. Just a thought of his and the gun is set in motion. The large lower part of the gun that appeared to have no purpose shifted it's position and grew in length, now acting as an extension of the barrel, a new muzzle was formed as well. That was the magic called technology that was bestowed upon The Kaiser, it was the ability to freely shift it's form and change and adapt, like it was a living being. Various aiming aids also appeared on the gun but they were actually unnecessary when Legato was present. Now the gun was in it's one of it's various long-range firing modes, it's power, speed, precision and most importantly range were all increased.
Legato lays down and takes aim at the exit. He was a man a few words when his job was concerned, he believed that keeping his thought to himself was just the smart way to live.
"What a pain in the ass. But i guess taking out a rat is gonna be good for my reputation." he slightly grins while saying that and steadies his aim, now holding his breath.
