Perhaps you thought this was going to be about a new feature film adaptation of POKEMON starring real life, flesh and blood actors as well as CGI pocket monsters. Something that could join the live-action AKIRA and BLEACH movies that are currently in development. If that was the case then, I’m sorry to say, but you just got psyched out.
We DO have a video of live-action POKEMON here but, in fact, it’s actually of some live-action roll-playing. Coincidentally, just yesterday, my editor was explaining to me the finer details of LARPing (as I’m told it’s called). Up until now, I assumed it was the sole providence of DUNGEONS & DRAGONS fans, not Nintendo gamers, but my assumptions are confounded on daily basis, aren’t they? So we’ve got a turn-based battle between Ash and Misty’s respective Pokemon, with some last-minute, possibly-illegal interference from none other than Pikachu. I find it assuming that the cosplayers seem to have factored lag into their fake-fighting, given the lack of connected attacks and delay of pained reactions. Anyway, take a look for yourself...
You know, I was about to pass snarky judgment on these kids but, upon reflection, I realize this isn’t THAT much different than the Kaiju Big Battel I enjoy so much. That’s full contact, of course, and, if you haven’t heard about that OTHER live-action fake-fighting with Japanese monsters, prepare for my upcoming article about it.
