My little brother loves Yugioh. He watches all the series on Toonzai (used to be KidsWB) except that Yugioh GX played on Cartoon Network. I'm not a Yugioh fan, but I do noticed how GX and 5Ds foiled each other with this point of interest. Yusei comes from a bleak future and lives in an impoverished city (the Satellite) while Jaden is very optimistic and lives at the dorms without a care in the world. Jaden is a pretty spoiled brat in my eyes.
As for the topic, I stopped watching Yugioh after the first season. I do hear about it a lot from my lil brother and his friends.
