I can't quite put my finger on this show just yet. The basic sum-up of the episode is that in the future, a young woman of apparently some wealth named Akiha runs away from her guardian and sister (?) to get out of the possibility of an arranged marriage. By flying into space. Along with her companion, a robot named Imo-chan (robots in this universe are little flying bundles of cute, which can plug themselves into space ships, humanoid robotic bodies, etc), Akiha crash-lands into a dead space colony manned by...Lelouch!

Well, not really, but it's an egomaniacal AI voiced by Code Geass's Lelouch seiyuu, Jun Fukuyama. Trust me, you'll recognize it. Anyway, suffice it to say that this AI appears to be a little on the manic-depressive side, with heavy emphasis on the “manic.” We also get introduced to an interstellar cop, Itsuki Kannagi, whose exact role thus far appears to be “running around in a near-bikini.” (That's not entirely true, but she doesn't do a whole heck of a lot so far.)

I wasn't at all sure what to expect for this series; sure, it's from Sunrise (makers of Geass, Gundam 00, Cowboy Bebop, etc), but the designs look moe and what little of the plot was known wasn't all that exciting (“girl goes into space, finds a less-than-amicable AI, and makes some new friends”). That said, it was better than I expected...there are some parts that actually got me giggling, and the production values are definitely high. The animation is smooth, the design work (for both characters and mechs) is attractive, the characters are well-voiced, and I love how the little robot makes a noise when it moves-- reminds me of my first anime, The Fantastic Adventures of Unico.

All in all, this looks like a cute, fun series, leaning more towards comedy than drama, which is a nice break after the Serious Business of Geass and Gundam 00's second seasons. Probably going to be a must-watch for fans of the lighter Tenchi Muyo! series, Martian Successor Nadesico, Mai-HiME, etc. Discerning fans may also spot references to other shows...

They could have been animating more Geass instead of this. Fuck.

@Kuro: Please no more Code Trainwreck...besides, Lulu is no more anyway.

This show seems pretty interesting and is a well needed genre switch for sunrise in my opinion. They've done lighter shows in the past but lately it's been all grim and serious stuff. I'm tempted to watch it purely because it has a character named Akiha as the lead, lol.

Yea, no more God damned Geass....

Anyway, I thought hearing Lelouche's voice going crazy out of that robot was hilarious.
