Lordie, it's been a pretty busy week here at the Vice...well, once it wasn't a holiday anyway. Plenty went down, so if you missed it because you were spending time with family and/or traveling (like me!), here's your weekly recap:

Ooh Ooh Ooh-ah Ooh-ah!
Ooh Ooh Ooh-ah Ooh-ah!

We had a little bit of word on Stan Lee and Hiroyuki Takei's Ultimo-- the Japanese version will be released in February, so hopefully we'll see it soon too. I had some suggestions for manga that comics readers might enjoy, and for the reverse as well, which you can see here. A company decided to cash in on the popularity of tentacle porn with a grape soda, if you can believe it, Canadian manga fans had some trouble with customs, and. Oh yeah, and FUNimation licensed Soul Eater and Evangelion 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone.

Meanwhile in Japan, otaku were finding ways to act out their fantasies of marrying anime characters, watching a trailer for the Chun Li film (which seems almost universally disliked), cosplaying as Lucky Star characters, and complaining about tourists who hassle geisha.

BIFF! POW! BLAM!
BIFF! POW! BLAM!

Comic Vine:

  • The biggest news of the week, of course, was the latest Watchmen ruling-- in favor of Fox, leaving fans unsure of whether the film will actually come out.
  • In happier news, though, the Vine finished up their Best of 2008 awards.
  • That hentai soda was a big hit with the comickers, too.
  • Finally, Cartoon Network uploaded some videos of upcoming Batman and Clone Wars episodes.

Pew pew pew pew!
Pew pew pew pew!
Giant Bomb:
  • Man, Tentacle Grape is really making the rounds-- even the gamers are in on the joke now.
  • Meanwhile the guys also completed their own Best of 2008 list to close out the year and make room for 2009.
  • Did you know there's going to be a Michael Phelps video game? I think he needs a gold medal for “fastest acquisition of a dozen spokesman contracts,” too.

Good times all around!

We should have a "Best of" awards here, perhaps next year.

Phelps has a video game...? What? How the heck would that work. Swimming is not a video game sport.
Obviously the most important news this way is about a Grapeist. Go figure.

I agree with Black_Rose. We should have a "Best of" awards next year. That would be fun to vote for.

Duly noted-- we thought about it, but really didn't have the time to pull together the voting. I thought about doing a non-voted list at least, but eh, I"m just one person. I do my best to be open-minded but for a "best of" list it'd be hard to do it in a way that represented multiple tastes =P

It can be done by one.  I got very little input from the other 'staff' at Comic Vine.  I did get some heat about not including a certain category due to time.  Overall it seemed to go well.  I had voting for all categories.  Giant Bomb had voting for Game of the Year.  Also, Maxwell and I could've given some input into different categories.  Guess we'll have to shoot for 2009.

Yeah, see, by the time it was all put together for Avice, we didn't really have time for significant voting ^^;

CV's went live late on the 23rd and the voting was spread out.  The first ended on the 27th but they had until the 31st to vote on the last category.  The good thing about all this is [hopefully] we'll be able to simply implement random polls whenever we want without having to do a full feature thing.  I'll work to make that happen.
