I wouldn't really call that tanking it, more like barely enduring the shock and staying conscious.
For the last two pages I really don't get how he can suddenly use lightning, he's already eaten many other magics before but never showed anything close to this, maybe the author's finally had enough of people talking about the one up power mergers he's been using to beat stronger opponents for Natsu.
