Goku takes of his shirt and Sephiroth explodes.
Seriously, Meteor is more like a life-wiper. It would've transformed Earth into a barren wasteland without life. Sephirot planned to use Earth as some sort of vessel for interstellar travel.
On the ohter hand we have Goku. He's not only decissively more faster but also a casual planet-buster unlike any version of Seph.
If you are looking for good matches for Sephiroth pick someone from the HST, not a freakin' Goku. Even his kid version can kick the white-haired bishounen's ass any time.
Other than the painfully long Meteor cast, Sephiroth is only at building-to-block level in destructiveness. His durability is even more less.

Sephiroth is supposed to be a planet buster or something like that I believe. But Goku is way above that. In Cooler movie he was stated to be sun buster level. In GT he destroyed a dimension at a fraction of a 400th of his power, and even strictly manga talk, he is known to be easy planet buster and virtually on the same level as a guy who destroyed a galaxy. Sphiroth loses. Saiyan saga Goku might be a good match for him though. Goku was only just barely planet buster level there and thousands of times weaker than he is later on.

This guy also got kicked by say 7 time slashing (Omni Slash is exactly that, you slash 7 times, nothing more, nothing less)
this would either mean the FF7 crew or at least Cloud can destroy the sun, OR That the SuperNova were more or less just an attack animation
