Upon many growing email requests for a “Must see before you die Anime & Manga list” I thought I’d go a second round and give a more thorough look into title recommendations for both mediums

Alright so, from weeks of deliberation with my various fellow Otaku brethren on and off the podcast as well as through some extensive research from the likes of ANN, ANIMENFO, ANIDB & MYANIMELIST what I have cooked up here folks is an updated and rebooted list of MUST SEE ANIME & MANGA TITLES…for almost anybody open to the mediums…fanboys and newbies alike!

Now generally speaking these kinds of suggestive lists typically highlight some of the most agreed upon classics most fans would have already known about but let’s be honest here, no matter how impartial and objective you try to be with these things there is always bound to be someone else out there who will find fault or even claim bias on the chosen selection…and that is perfectly fine…..in fact it would be dumb not to be expected

These kinds of lists should be seen as more of a guideline / gap filler into the best or even possibly the overlooked gems that the medium’s have had to offer and as such it can be very helpful for quite a few folks

I’ve tried to generate this list based in terms of agreed quality first and foremost not just on accumulative popularity which is why some of the more obvious long running shows will not be on this list at all, however for this list I’ve tried to stick with titles that have more or less finished their story run – giving you the opportunity to make your own final open and shut case point about each title…..for the most part

This time around I’ve tried to keep it a little bit more varied in terms of genre and target demographic, ya know, so people can pick out something that may be of a particular taste to em

This list is NOT in any particular order

Good Memorial Day Anime Vice! I know many of you do not celebrate today and are not American, but I think today is a day to remember everyone who has fought and died and is still fighting, no matter where you are from. Anyway, I have a new, and shorter, episode of Dunce Cap for y'all! Today's episode is about FUNimation's Blu-ray release of Gainax's zany brainchild, Fooly Cooly aka FLCL!!

WARNING! This video contains explicit language. Also, this video is not edited in any way.

Please feel free to provide suggestions for an anime or manga for me to talk about and I will do my best to oblige. Also, if you are curious about anything discussed in this-or previous-episode(s) don't hesitate to ask me for more information/opinions.

Last episode: Magic, Mystery, Love, and PEPPERS!!

So the highly anticipated Black Rock Shooter has arrived..for a 52 minute romp! Pretty standard animation for the real world but the artistry for the "Other" world (as we do not know what this place is this is what I've dubbed it) blows the real world away. The fight scenes are cool as the characters' powers are played out. However, the struggle seems to be one-sided. Just what the hell is this "Other" world? It's empty yet full of barren lands and great stone structures (all to be destroyed). From the looks of the story it seems there is a triangle of attention and jealously between the three main characters. In the real world two of the girls go back and forth between the main protagonist's attention. While in the "Other" world the main girl (aka Black Rock Shooter) constantly battles the other self of her first friend in the real world. You also see glimpses of the third girl traveling toward the other two in the "Other" world. Just how do the girls get such powers? And just how did the girl disappear and where is she?

For some reason I get the feeling that the underlying tone is relative to FLCL. I say this because the "Other" world could just be an imaginary world where the girls duel to sort out their feelings because they cannot deal with them in reality. It seems to me the BRS story is really about adolescent girls coming of age..dealing with deeper bonds of friendship and the trials of jealousy that draw the line between being lonely or not. In the end the story is not what I expected but I'm curious to see where it all goes.
