Men are from Mars, Women and Sakaguchi are for Wiis?...

You know, I'd never really thought of gaming consoles as being especially gender-driven-- outside of the -tans, anyway –so I found this article at Kotaku, in which the Wii is said to be very female-driven, pretty interesting. I can't disagree with the idea. I mean, even my mother-- whose video game past includes pretty much that shanghai tile-matching game and Solitaire –wanted a Wii for Christmas.

But this ties into some other gaming news which is perhaps a bit more topical: Hironobu Sakaguchi, one of the original creators of Final Fantasy, says he wants to make a Wii game. Not necessarily a Wii Final Fantasy game (there are already several of those, after all), but a Wii game. Considering Sakaguchi has also worked on Blue Dragon and Kingdom Hearts (and Parasite Eve!), maybe this little, currently completely un-planned desire could turn into another major JRPG franchise. Wouldn't that be nice?

The real trick would be making a JRPG that your mother could enjoy while still retaining a hint on complexity...
