After a terrible war in the near future, a dozen corporations run the world. The public is deeply suspicious of the emergent race of psychics-a common anime setup from Gundam onward. Enter the ASHURUM organization, which claims to offer sanctuary to those with psychic powers and to train them in methods of putting their skills to use for the common good. Two such foundlings are brother and sister Kai and Hikaru, brought into the fold by ASHURUM agent Eiji. Within a year of working for an ASHURUM subdivision, Kai has made great progress but his sister has yet to recover from recent trauma, and Kai must still face the daily hatred of "normal" humans. Before long, he also discovers that neither ASHURUM nor the quasi-governmental corporations are necessarily acting for the general good of humanity (who guessed?), in a show that begins well but soon begins to limp through the familiar tropes of science fiction anime. In the parlance of the show, "E's" (pronounced as is the letter "s") is a person with extrasensory powers that are too strong for conventional humans to defeat; all rather too close for comfort to the "X" of X-Men (2000), to which this show owes much of its inspiration. Based on the manga E's by Satoru Yuiga, serialized in G-Fantasy Comics since 1997. V
