Eruka Frog

Origin

Not much is known of Eruka's history. What is known however is that she isn't that old in terms of witches, meaning she could be several hundred years old and still be considered young. It is also known that she is a witch, so she must have been related to a previous witch or witches. Eruka has shown lower-level magic skills, supporting the theory she is a younger which more, because most mature witches have powerful magic, while Eruka's is usually stated to be intermediate at the very best.

Creation

Eruka Frog was created by Atsushi Okubo for the Monthly Shonen Gangan series Soul Eater. Her character is modeled after a frog with frog based powers and looks. She made her first appearance in Volume 3, Chapter 9 'Persevering Soul' in the manga and Episode 12 'Courage that Beats Out Fear'. Eruka is voiced by Misato Fukuen in the Japanese version and Kate Oxley in the English version.

Character Evolution

At the beginning of the series, Eruka is seen working with Mizune against Medusa since the two of them suspect Medusa is up to something and will endanger the sisterhood of witches. Even when Medusa returns to Shibusen, the two follow her, claiming that they will kill her. Eruka's cowardice is seen when Medusa rips apart Mizune from the inside as she flees. When she finds out her life is in equal danger, she reluctantly becomes Medusa's assistant with her affairs at Shibusen.

Eruka is responsible for freeing the immortal werewolf later known as Free and helping with sealing in Shinigami-sama and most weapons and teachers on the night of Christmas Eve, allowing Medusa to revive Asura, the kishin. Although Eruka still hates Medusa, she acts more carefree to the destruction and mayhem she is causing, claiming that it is her love of being a witch that allows this to happen. Of course that all changes when she meets Asura face to face and realizes the true terror he possesses.

After Medusa's first death, Eruka begins to enjoy her freedom until Medusa attacks her and sends her to Arachnophobia to spy on her sister Arachne. Reluctant and afraid to help out again, Eruka does so. She still acts like a coward when it comes to the internal affairs of Arachnaphobia but does put aside her hatred to help the Spatori destroy Baba Yaga's castle. After the attack, she is later captured by Shibusen and becomes their witch prisoner to help out with magical affairs. She only does so since she is afraid of dying and goes along with it. Recently, she has noticed the snakes in her body have disappeared, signifying Medusa's death as she wonders how she will escape.With Free coming to the rescue but he was captured too but Eruka was free because Shibusen needed the witches to stop the Kishin's clown army from regenerating.

Despite being a coward against Medusa, Eruka is seen to be a much more logical thinking witch with her math magic. She is also more considerate and gentile towards other members of Medusa's group, such as Crona and Free.
