A homonculus created by the alchemist Szilard to serve him. Eventually becomes paired up with Firo after a series of events.
Origin
Szilard's homunculus, although not his first creation. She was created as his subordinate through the process of Szilard combining his own cells and the cells of a woman he abducted, and is supposed to have no thoughts or emotion when executing his commands. However, as the series progresses she develops her own emotions, even experiencing what may be called love.
Creation
Ennis was created by Ryohgo Narita and illustrated by Katsumi Enami. Initially, Ennis was created as a succubus. However, Narita soon scrapped this idea for Ennis' current role as a homunculus. In the Japanese language track of the anime, Ennis is portrayed by Sanae Kobayashi, and in the English dub is voiced by Brina Palencia.
Major Story Arcs
In the beginning of Baccano, Ennis was emotionless, working under Szilard and following his orders, even when ordered to kill without remorse or hesitation. However, after meeting Firo Prochainezo, she begins to develop her own mind and emotions, seeking to defy her master instead of aid him. Finally, she gives Firo the knowledge necessary to destroy Szilard and free herself. Then, after seventy years, she finally relents and marries Firo.
