Mattalast and Kyasariro deal with the crew aboard one naval destroyer and interrogate the commanding officer to find out why they are attacking the Library, and the response is that Noloty is dead, so all Armed Librarians must die. Every single person they interrogate gives them the same answer. Eventually, even Hamyuts and Ireia personally join the fray to keep the various naval and air forces away from the Library.
Meanwhile, Enlike is still following Noloty's trail. Apparently, the Governor of Paradise, the leader of the Church of Drowning in God's Grace, revealed himself to her. He promised to surrender himself and all the secrets of his faction if Noloty would kill Arkit for him. The Governor of Paradise mentions that Arkit is a "failed experiment," one who has the ability to spread hatred and anger among anyone he wants, but that if somethig goes wrong he could spread that hatred to the entire world and thus accidentally cause everyone to destroy each other. So if she kills him, then the Church will surrender to the Library.
Back at Bantorra, the Armed Librarians continue fighting bravely against the armed forces of the world, but there are simply too many people to deal with. Strangely, even a lot of the civilians on the island suddenly hate the Armed Librarians as well and turn themselves into willing suicide bombers, taking Ireia down with them. Minth claims that all of the peoples' souls are blue, a sign that they might all be infected with the Cerulean Death, as the Armed Librarians retreat back to the library.
Elsewhere, the Governor of Paradise is listening to a reporter over the radio growing increasingly bloodthirsty over reports of war as he talks to a slimy lizard that crawled out of its box. For some reason, he calls it Arkit as the image of the boy is reflected in the lizard's eyes.
