While it is called 'the end of the Earth', the term may also apply to the idea that the human race will be wiped out while the planet itself may remained unharmed. Things like a supreme natural disaster or a nuclear war are some of the most probable causes for humanity's destruction.

This term indicates that some major event will occur, causing the Earth to be unable to host life. The most common reference is that the Earth blows up but their are other methods that are possible.

In fiction we decipher that a being of pure evil will try to bring the end of the world either through extinction of all Earth's inhabitants or destroying the Earth as a whole. Another form of this is a character wanting to destroy the Earth so they may remake it into the paradise they envision.
