When their homeworld is destroyed, the emperor, empress, and crown prince of Ume escape to Earth in a bottle. Forced to lodge with average Earth boy Taro Nakamura, they attempt to reestablish their empire on Earth with little success, even when their loyal retainer Benishoga arrives to "help." Doraemon-creators Fujiko-Fujio conceived this story for Shonen Sunday in the style of their earlier Q-taro the Ghost. Originally broadcast on a Sunday to help promote its manga incarnation, it was moved to Tuesdays and then taken off-air completely. Compare to Sergeant Frog, which similarly features a benignly incompetent alien invader. To mark its 35th "anniversary" (not that anyone cared, but modern producers love their meaningless celebrations), a new movie version, EPP: Paro-paro-pan! From the Ends of the Universe, brought Denka to the big screen in 1994.
