In a pseudo-medieval society, the people of Megaronia stumble on the relics of a lost civilization and leap ahead of their neighbors. Soon, the nation has conquered all the surrounding kingdoms, and the king's evil daughter, Crystel, sets out to find Ellcia, the legendary Ship of God, before the prophesied Fall of Megaronia can come to pass. In doing so, she inadvertently rouses the Chosen One who will destroy her kingdom, a young pirate girl called Eira.
The only remarkable thing about this tedious fantasy is that all aspects of production are uniformly poor, from lackluster designs by the famous Umezu to Yano's sub-Raiders of the Lost Ark music. The dub similarly disappoints with risible attempts at British dialogue, riddled with pronunciation howlers and remedial grammar. But who can blame the crews on both sides of the Pacific for merely cashing their paychecks? With its unconvincing pirates, pretentious philosophizing, and hackneyed plot, Ellcia was doomed from the scripting stage. V
